Stavros Niarchos Foundation Launches Initiative to Protect Refugee Children in Greece

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation, in partnership with the European Programme for Integration and Migration, has announced the launch of a grant initiative to support nongovernmental organizations working to protect refugee children arriving in Greece.

As a partner in EPIM, a collaboration of twelve large European foundations, SNF will awards grants to nongovernmental organizations in support of efforts to welcome and protect unaccompanied refugee children. Among other things, the program will support projects to build safe structures and networks at the first points of arrival and to strengthen mechanisms for the proper identification and registration of unaccompanied children and youths; provide alternatives to detention with the support of sustainable transit structures for unaccompanied children and further improve the guardian system for children and youth transiting through and/or establishing their life in Greece; and raise awareness among the Greek public, local authorities, and institutions responsible for the reception of unaccompanied children and youth in Greece. . .
