State Officials: N.Y. Will Help Enroll People in Insurance through Obamacare

ALBANY — The recent announcement by the Trump administration to slash funding for enrollment assistance and marketing of insurance policies offered to individuals through the Affordable Care Act will not affect New York, the head of the state’s online exchange said Thursday.

“Letting people know about coverage through the Marketplace and helping them enroll in coverage is not only the right thing to do, it’s the smart thing to do because it brings healthier people into the insurance market” said Donna Frescatore, executive director of NY State of Health. “We’re as committed as ever to ensuring that consumers have enrollment assistance in communities throughout the state.”

NY State of Health is the online market created four years ago to comply with the requirements of the federal Affordable Care Act, known as Obamacare. A dozen insurance companies will offer plans to individuals through NY State of Health for 2018, and 15 will offer the Essential Plan, an option with monthly premiums of $20 or less for New Yorkers with incomes just above the eligibility level for Medicaid...
