Silicon Valley Community Foundation Statement on Allegations of Workplace Misconduct

Silicon Valley Community Foundation is a values-driven organization, built on the contributions and the selfless efforts of our entire network. Of the core values at SVCF, accountability and transparency have helped our organization grow to where it is today. In keeping with these values, I wanted to openly address issues that I have been focused on lately and are of utmost importance to me.

Recently, there have been allegations by former employees of sexual harassment by a senior staff member at our workplace. We do not tolerate inappropriate conduct of any kind at SVCF, and we investigate all claims of misconduct. Immediately after learning of these recent allegations, we retained the services of Thompson Hine LLP to conduct a full investigation into the claims. At the conclusion of that investigation, we will take whatever action is necessary to preserve the integrity of SVCF.

All of us at SVCF take this matter very seriously. It is as important as ever to ensure that this behavior does not exist in any form. I am fully committed to further cultivating and ensuring a safe workplace and a culture that is inclusive and open. In this regard, we will share our learnings and actions at the conclusion of the investigation.

While it is disheartening to hear these allegations and criticisms of our organization, I could not be prouder of our employees and the dedication they continue to show our communities across Silicon Valley, California, our country, and the world. It is their collective passion for doing good that makes SVCF a remarkable organization.

Emmett D. Carson, Ph.D.
