Philanthropy New York's Michael Remaley and the North Star Fund's Hugh Hogan were quoted in a Crain's New York Business article on our research into institutional giving totals for Superstorm Sandy.
Institutional donors including private foundations and corporations gave $297 million for victims of Super storm Sandy as of earlier this month, according to report by Philanthropy New York, a nonprofit comprised of leading grant makers. The amount pales in comparison to funds given for other disasters, although the nonprofit said the total for Sandy will rise as more donors publicly report their giving. Even so, it seems unlikely that the total will reach the $1.1 billion institutional donors gave after the terrorist attack on Sept 11, 2001 or the $906 million bestowed after Gulf Coast Hurricanes, most notably Katrina, in 2005....
