Protesters Demand Affordable Housing Outside City Hall
More than 1,000 demonstrators gathered outside City Hall in the rain on Monday to demand more affordable housing from Mayor de Blasio.
The rally — organized by activists from the Metro Industrial Areas Foundation and attended by Comptroller Scott Stringer, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-Brooklyn) and other pols — was a stinging slap at de Blasio, who says his administration will build or renovate 200,000 affordable apartments by 2024.
But activists demanded more. They released a four-point plan that included building 15,000 units of affordable senior housing on vacant land controlled by the New York City Housing Authority, repairing existing public housing, and ensuring more affordable housing for those making $35,000 or less. . .
