We create and fund initiatives focused on improving the quality of life for individuals and families; provide technical assistance, leadership development, and other support to strengthen the capacity of our nonprofit partners; and advocate on important issues affecting our communities.

 The Program Associate, Education will directly support the process of planning, implementation, and execution of United Way of New York City’s (UWNYC) Education initiatives. Primary responsibilities include managing grant making process, establishing and maintaining systems that facilitate information sharing, planning and reporting obligations; assisting staff with research and materials development; assist in data collection; and assist in planning and delivering training workshops.

Reports To: Vice President, Education

Duties And Responsibilities Include:
Grant Management

  • Working closely with Education leadership, monitors and evaluates grantee performance by reviewing and summarizing grantee reports, maintaining positive relationships with grantees, following up with grantees as needed to obtain necessary information, providing technical assistance and engaging in problem-solving. Works with grantees to ensure compliance with grant agreements and successful project implementation;
  • Updates database, generates user-friendly reports and task reminders, and ensures its functionality in support of Education activities. Follows up with other staff as needed to ensure timely completion of all proposal review and grants management tasks;
  • Prepares grant agreements, reporting templates; helps develop and maintain system for processing renewals of grants; checks for thoroughness and consistency of documentation across program areas;
  • Coordinates communication with nonprofit agencies, public and private funders, and the general public about UWNYC’s Education grantmaking priorities, guidelines, and proposal review process;
  • Prepares high-quality, written work products in support of the grantmaking and grants management processes;

Capacity Building Support

  • Provide direct support at training workshops – co-facilitation
  • Deliver brief trainings

Program Administration

  • Assists Education leadership with research and analysis related to potential funding initiatives and/or special projects;
  • Assists in preparing meeting materials and presentations;
  • Support the coordination, scheduling, logistics, and reporting process for regular site visits to our school partners;
  • Assemble internal memos, presentations, reports and proposals;
  • Assist in collecting and analyzing data from surveys and interim assessments to guide evaluation and reporting;
  • Help establish and maintain systems for tracking work across all initiatives to facilitate planning, information sharing and contract reporting obligations;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • BA or BS degree; graduate degree or experience comparable to a graduate degree, a plus;
  • Excellent analytical ability, written and verbal communication skills; ability to summarize complex issues clearly and concisely;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, a collaborative approach and willingness to work as part of a cohesive team;
  • A high degree of personal integrity, sound judgment, tact, and discretion;
  • Ability to manage multiple complex processes and track activities and outcomes to successful conclusion; ability to adhere to strict deadlines;
  • Content knowledge and experience in nonprofit K-12 programs and services;
  • Experience with training and facilitation;
  • Familiarity with NYC area nonprofit and/or philanthropic community, preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to understand the needs of urban school districts and the diversity of their student populations;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously with strong attention to detail;
  • Collaborative working style - effective at working with others to reach common goals and objectives;
  • Expertise in MS Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, experience with database and website software preferred;
  • Access to and willingness to conduct work-related travel within the NYC area,
