Philanthropy New York Board and Public Policy Committee Approves Amendment to 2018 Census Policy Position
In 2018, Philanthropy New York adopted the following policy statement: Philanthropy New York urges Congress and the Administration to devote sufficient resources to the 2020 Census now, to put planning and preparations back on track and resist calls for untested, unnecessary new questions that would decrease participation and increase the inaccuracy of the count.
On August 4, 2020 the PNY Public Policy Committee and Board of Directors approved the following amendment to the 2018 policy position: Philanthropy New York discourages any action that will impair or prevent the Census Bureau's ability to conduct a full and fair count of every person living in the United States.
We amended the statement in order to sign on to a national funder letter, championed by the Census Funders and the Forum and signed by over 480 philanthropic organizations, urging the Bureau to reconsider the amended final date of the Census.
