OSF Weighs in on High Cost of Heroin Overdose Treatment Drug
 
The drug naloxone can be life-saving. Perhaps better known under the brand name Narcan, it is an antidote to heroin overdoses.
 
It reverses the effects of heroin and other drugs derived from opium, but does not produce a “high.” Its effects are immediate, but not necessarily lasting. Professional aftercare is usually needed.
 
In some countries, naloxone costs less than $1 per dose, according to Daniel Wolfe, director of the international harm reduction program at the Open Society Foundations....
