Obituary: Rachel Cowan, Former Nathan Cummings Foundation Official 

Rabbi Rachel Cowan, a Mayflower descendant who converted to Judaism and became a prominent innovator in three nontraditional movements in that faith, died on Friday at her home in Manhattan. She was 77.

The cause was brain cancer, her family said.

For 14 years she was program director for Jewish life of the Nathan Cummings Foundation, which provided grants to encourage new approaches in spirituality, social justice, aging and interfaith relations...
