NYPL Wins $500,0000 in News Challenge for Internet Access Project

New York Public Library is one of the 19 winners in Knight News Challenge, co-sponsored by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, Ford Foundation and the Mozilla Foundation.
 
The library received $500,000 for its “Check Out the Internet” project which lends New York residents portable Wi-Fi hotspots for a year.
 
The library was among those who best responded to the question posed by the challenge: "How can we strengthen the Internet for free expression and innovation?"...
