NYPL Mid-Manhattan Branch to Reopen in May as Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library

NEW YORK – The New York Public Library (NYPL) announced on its website the reopening of its largest circulating branch after undergoing a full-scale renovation. The new, modern library, located on Fifth Avenue and 40th Street at site of the former Mid-Manhattan Library, will reopen in May as the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library (SNFL)—thanks to a generous gift from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF). The state-of-the-art building features eight floors of offerings, with four floors of general collections and reading rooms, as well as an array of brand new amenities.

Located across from NYPL’s iconic Stephen A. Schwarzman Building, the SNFL is the NYPL’s largest and busiest circulating library, with more than 1.7 million visits a year and an annual circulation of 2 million items, according to the NYPL’s website.

“New Yorkers from across the city have long relied on the branch for books and materials along with free computer and internet access, technology training, English language classes, and more, which is why it received a much-needed interior renovation so New Yorkers could get the library they need and deserve,” the NYPL noted on its website.
