"Divestment" was not a household word when it became a central strategy for ending international cooperation with South Africa's apartheid regime in the 1980s, but many people know what it means now: companies and institutions can stop investing in corporate or business actions that are harmful.
North Star funded many activist groups who helped lead the divestment campaign against the South African Apartheid regime three decades ago, and we're proud to be an early member of the Divest-Invest Philanthropy initiative--and the first community foundation to sign onto their pledge to divest from fossil fuel investments....
