New York Community Trust Announces 2017 Nonprofit Excellence Awards Finalists
New York, NY, October 10, 2017 – Six nonprofit groups from across the city have been chosen as finalists for The New York Community Trust Nonprofit Excellence Awards—a program created and managed by the Nonprofit Coordinating Committee of New York (NPCC)—for demonstrating excellence in nonprofit management in NPCC’s Eight Key Areas of Nonprofit
Excellence. The Awards program engages nonprofit applicants in a 360-degree review of all of their management practices, provides expert feedback for improvement, and recognizes management excellence. The winning organizations will receive cash prizes and scholarships to Columbia Business School programs for leadership and management during NPCC’s Best
Practices Workshop & Awards Presentation on Friday, December 1, 2017.
Since 2006, the Nonprofit Excellence Awards program has raised awareness of the importance of the diverse nonprofit community in the New York City area, highlighted best practices in
NPCC’s Eight Key Areas of Nonprofit Excellence, and helped organizations reflect on as well as improve what it takes to achieve management excellence. In the past decade, nearly 75% of
applicants made changes to their management practices as a result of their participation in the Awards program.
An expert 30-member selection committee chose the six finalists from a pool of 45 qualified applicants following a readiness assessment, application, and vetting process that identifies
management excellence and replicable practices in one or more of the Eight Key Areas, which are Results, Governance, Finance, Diversity, Human Resources, Information Technology,
Communications, and Fundraising.
“Strong nonprofits help our communities thrive every day. These six finalists serve as models and provide innovative and replicable practices for all nonprofits,” said Sharon Stapel,
President and Executive Director of NPCC. “The Nonprofit Excellence Awards recognize management excellence, and the winning organizations, while also giving the sector as a whole
ideas, strategies, and approaches that they can use to support their own communities.” “The Awards program gives organizations an opportunity to reflect on their management
practices and celebrate innovation. We are proud to support New York’s nonprofits as they build stronger communities,” said Lorie Slutsky, President of the New York Community Trust...
