New York Business Coalition Denounces Trump Move On DACA
The organization of the city's largest businesses, Mayor Bill de Blasio and other New York leaders condemned President Donald Trump on Tuesday for his decision to phase out an Obama program protecting undocumented immigrants.
The criticism from the Partnership for New York City was part of widespread outcry following the president's decision to stop accepting applications for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, which granted temporary reprieve from deportation and provided work permits for unauthorized immigrants who entered the country as minors.
The president also decided to stop offering DACA renewals after next March, at which point program participants, known as Dreamers, will be subject to removal from the country. De Blasio, a liberal Democrat, rallied top city figures ranging from Cardinal Timothy Dolan to Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito at City Hall Tuesday afternoon to blast the Republican administration's plan. The Partnership was represented by Kathryn Wylde, its president and CEO. . .
