New York Botanical Garden Humanities Institute To Explore Social Impact of Gardens

The newly formed New York Botanical Garden's Humanities Institute, made possible by a $635,000 grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, holds its first public event on Friday--a symposium that will explore the role of women in landscape design.

The new humanities institute is the first of its kind at a U.S. botanical garden, as they traditionally tend to be devoted to scientific studies.

Other institute programs will include  long- and short-term fellowships, outreach to local schools and at least one symposium a year....
