New Komen Head Says Organization's Mission is To Save Lives
The new head of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure says the organization is singly focused these days on its mission of saving lives from breast cancer and the controversy that engulfed the group 2 1/2 years ago when it stopped funding Planned Parenthood is well behind it.
In an interview with Associated Press, Judy Salerno, who was named Komen’s president and chief executive officer last June, said that to make the most of its more limited funds and work more efficiently toward finding a cure, Komen will collaborate with other organizations on research.
Salerno also said increased participation at some fund-raising races this spring and a boost in giving in other parts of the country show that the organization's reputation is "on the mend."...
