Ms. Foundation Speaks Out Against Trump Administration Changes to Obama Era Contraceptive Rules

NEW YORK (October 6, 2017) – Ms. Foundation for Women President and CEO Teresa C. Younger released the following statement in response to the Trump Administration’s decision to roll back Obama Administration requirements for employer-covered contraceptives:

“President Trump’s decision to roll back critical protections for women’s reproductive care is another shocking example of this administration’s blatant contempt for women, the LGBTQ community, and people with low incomes.

“Far from providing ‘religious freedom,’ this order gives employers carte blanche to discriminate against women, disregard their access to basic healthcare, and dismiss their right to full body autonomy. It makes it easier for employers to opt out of providing full healthcare for employees and strips women of the right to decide if and when to parent.

“Coupled with yesterday’s Department of Justice decision to reverse protections for transgender employees, it is crystal clear that the current administration does not value the health, safety, and economic security of an overwhelming number of American people.

“We cannot allow the White House to turn this country into a backwards, regressive, and divided states of America. The Ms. Foundation for Women and our grantee-partners will continue to fight to protect the rights of women and LGBTQ people across the country. We urge those who stand against this and any other form of discrimination to join us and make their voices heard.”
