Mother Cabrini Health Foundation Announces Grant Portal Is Now Open
One hundred thirty years ago, a humble Italian nun was greeted upon her arrival in New York by the news that her accommodations were not ready and her plans to establish an orphanage were in danger of being scrapped. Despite obstacles and opposition, Mother Frances Xavier Cabrini forged ahead to serve the poorest among the Italian immigrants in Little Italy. Over the course of her life, she committed herself to serving all those in need. At the time of her death in 1917, she had founded a total of sixty-seven institutions: schools, hospitals, and orphanages spanning across the United States, Europe, and Central and South America.
Mother Cabrini was drawn to people and communities who faced the greatest struggles. At the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation, named in her honor and imbued with her spirit of service to the impoverished, we are committed to continuing her legacy in the state where her charitable efforts began. Our mission is to improve the health and well-being of New York’s poor, disadvantaged, and underserved populations. Our model is Mother Cabrini herself, as well as the centuries-long Catholic tradition of healing the sick and caring for the poor.
With that mandate in mind, we are excited to get to work. Last week, we announced our new executive leadership team, who will bring their expertise and experience to bear in supporting New York’s underserved populations.
And today we are pleased to announce that our online grants portal is now open and accepting Letters of Inquiry for eligible applicants for our Statewide Grants Program through May 9th.
