Mertz Gilmore Fires Up Its War On Coal
An article in Inside Philanthropy singles out the Mertz Gilmore Foundation for championing climate change solutions over the past 20 years, especially its efforts to reduce the use of coal, the country’s biggest source of global warming pollution.
According to Inside Philanthropy, as of May, Mertz Gilmore had given about a half a million in 2014 to its alternatives to coal program, with grants hovering in the mid-five figures. The foundation also is funding an investigative research project on the harmful effects of coal ash, the Kentucky Coalition for a campaign targeting a rural utility to start planning long term for more renewable and efforts to develop offshore wind off the East Coast...
