Mayor De Blasio Signs Bills Designed to Protect Tenants From Landlord Harassment
Mayor de Blasio signed into law a package of 18 bills aimed at protecting tenants whose landlords use construction as a form of harassment Wednesday.
The bills include a measure that will block developers who owe the Department of Buildings more than $25,000 in fines from pulling new construction permits, measures that expand the definition of harassment and increase the civil penalties for it.
“Sometimes it feels like in New York City that this city is only for developers or landlords, or the very wealthy folks who live in big fancy condominiums. But that’s not the truth” de Blasio said during the Manhattan bill signing. . .
