MasterCard Foundation to Help Address Water Sanitation in East Africa with Micro-Credit Program
Experts said at a regional forum held on Wednesday in Nairobi noted that poor communities are using micro loans to expand water supply and sanitation infrastructure.
“There is a consensus within policy and financial community that targeted subsidies and concessionary lending will address water and sanitation challenges facing low income groups,” Water. org CEO Gary White told participants in the forum.
The U.S. based charity has partnered with MasterCard Foundation to provide innovative solutions to water and sanitation crises across east Africa.
White revealed that 180,000 people in Kenya and Uganda have benefited from a five-year program to disburse loans worth 19.5 million U.S. dollars to help meet house hold water and sanitation needs....
