Longtime Carnegie Associate Awarded Top Mathematics Medal
 
Phillip A. Griffiths, Professor of Mathematics and former Director of the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, and a longtime associate of the Carnegie Corporation of New York, has received the Chern Medal, one of the world’s most prestigious prizes in the field of mathematics.
 
Griffiths, whose work has stimulated a wide range of advances in mathematics over the past 50 years, chairs the Science Initiative Group (SIG), an international team of scientific leaders and advocates dedicated to fostering science in developing countries. SIG manages the Carnegie Corporation-funded RISE initiative, which prepares PhD and MSc-level scientists and engineers in sub-Saharan Africa through university-based research and training networks in selected disciplines....
