Jane Forbes Clark of Clark Foundation Speaks at Baseball Hall of Fame on Family Legacy and Generosity
A crowd of more than 200 people heard Jane Forbes Clark speak Sunday at the National Baseball Hall of Fame about her family's history in and vision for Cooperstown.
At least another 100 people were turned away as the Hall's Grandstand Theater filled to capacity, with every seat filled and dozens of people sitting on the floor around Clark.
The talk was given by the Friends of the Village Library as part of its Sunday Program Series. Series organizer Lynne Mebust told the crowd that Clark had agreed to give her talk again, and the names of the people who were turned away were taken so those people could have first dibs on hearing a future talk.
Clark is the great-great grand-daughter of Edward Cabot Clark, the lawyer who patented Singer Sewing Machines and later became president of the company. Toward the end of the talk, she was asked if it was fair to say her family's generosity and philanthropy all came from a sewing machine. . .
