Independent Sector Names Sarah Kastelic 2014 American Express NGen Leadership Winner
 
Independent Sector has named Dr. Sarah Kastelic, deputy director of the National Indian Child Welfare Association (NICWA), as the 2014 recipient of the American Express NGen Leadership Award. 
 
Kastelic was selected from a pool of four other distinguished finalists including:
  • Aspen Baker, founder and executive director, Exhale
  • Courtney Macavinta, co-founder and chief executive, The Respect Institute
  • Henry Timms, executive director, 92Y
  • Sina Vann, manager of voices for change, Somaly Mam Foundation
"This year’s NGen Leadership Award finalists reflect the great breadth of young talent gracing the charitable sector —in the life-changing work they take on daily," said Timothy J. McClimon, president of the American Express Foundation, which sponsors the award. "American Express is proud to recognize Sarah’s work improving the lives of children and families in Native communities, and we congratulate all of our amazing finalists."
 
In its announcement, Independent Sector described Kastelic "as a transformational leader working to further policy research that empowers American Indian and Alaska Native communities to prevent and respond to child abuse and neglect."...
