Ford Foundation Strives to Boost Medicaid Enrollment
 
Funds will support BeneStream's mission to enroll more low-income empoyees in Medicaid. 
 
BeneStream, a health tech startup that helps businesses comply with the employer mandate provision of the Affordable Care Act, has announced a $1.5 million program-related investment from the Ford Foundation in support of its efforts to enroll eligible low-income employees in Medicaid.
 
The low-interest loan from the New York City-based foundation will enable BeneStream to expand its geographic and operational reach in states that have chosen to expand Medicaid eligibility under the ACA and enroll up to two million new employees in the federal healthcare program. According to BeneStream officials, the working poor were the largest uninsured demographic prior to Medicaid expansion under the ACA because they were neither eligible for Medicaid nor offered health benefits by their employers. BeneStream has been contracted to screen upward of fifteen thousand people a month in 2015 and help enroll those who are eligible for Medicaid but most likely to forgo the benefit owing to difficulty with the application process and the time commitment required....
