Doris Duke Foundation Supports New Website Focusing on Refugees

Last September, heartbreaking images of the body of a 3-year-old Syrian boy who washed up on a Turkish beach galvanized the world's attention on the global refugee crisis.

But it's a big world with a lot of crises, and inevitably media attention moved on.

All of which did nothing to dispel Lara Setrakian's belief that what was required was a news site devoted exclusively to this massive, multifaceted tragedy.

"Aylan Kurdi's death spurred public attention and some powerful press coverage," she says. "But we felt that there was much more to the story going unnoticed — literally thousands of other Aylan Kurdis, not just in the Mediterranean but in refugee hot spots around the world."

And so Tuesday, March 15, will mark the debut of Refugees Deeply, the latest in Setrakian's string of immersive single-topic websites. . .

Refugees Deeply is being supported by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.
