De Blasio drafts biz execs to push pre-K tax

Several business executives, including Lee Wasserman, Director of the Rockefeller Family Fund, have signed on to Mayor de Blasio's plan to raise taxes to fund citywide pre-K and after-school programs, reported Crain's New York Business.

A number of prominent business executives have just signed on to Mayor Bill de Blasio's plan to raise taxes to fund citywide prekindergarten and after-school programs, according to the coalition backing the push.

The business endorsements are meant to show support among affluent individuals for the tax hike, which would apply to households in the city earning more than $500,000. Gov. Andrew Cuomo has said that he wants the state to fund the program across New York with existing revenues. Mr. de Blasio argues that a five-year dedicated tax is necessary for its proper implementation, but that plan requires approval from the state Legislature in Albany....
