Congress Returns from Recess, Resumes Work on Tax Issues

A busy legislative schedule is on tap for Congress this week, with numerous hearings and floor votes scheduled to coincide with tax day on April 15.  In the House, Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has highlighted nearly a dozen tax bills to be voted on this week, including H.R. 1105, the Death Tax Repeal Act of 2015, which would repeal the estate tax; H.R. 1026, the Taxpayer Knowledge of IRS Investigations Act, which would allow the release of information on the status of investigations to individuals whose return information has been disclosed; and H.R. 1104, the Fair Treatment for All Donations Act, which would provide a gift tax deduction for gifts made to section 501(c)(4), (c)(5), and (c)(6) groups.
