Carnegie, Ford Give $1M to Free Legal Services Project for Immigrants

In response to the Trump administration’s immigration policies,  Governor Cuomo announced an initiative on Friday that offers pro-bono legal services to immigrants regardless of their residency status.

Coordinated by the state’s Office for New Americans, the Liberty Defense Project is a public-private partnerships that includes 182 advocacy organizations, 14 law schools, 21 law schools and 14 bar associations.

In a partnership with the New York State Department, the Carnegie Corporation and the Ford Foundation will provide $1 million to fund the project...
