Carmen Fariña Promises to Improve Classroom Diversity By Rezoning Schools
City Schools Chancellor Carmen Fariña vowed to tackle classroom segregation with school rezonings across the city in the upcoming school year.
Speaking with reporters Wednesday at a ribbon cutting for Manhattan’s Public School 191 campus, Fariña said she would promote classroom diversity by rezoning schools, as she did in Manhattan District 3, in other neighborhoods.
“Right now, we want to be able to do what we’ve done in District 3, in at least three or four other districts,” she said. “So that’s one of the goals.” . . .
