Brooklyn Community Foundation Now Accepting Applications for Incubator Project
BROOKLYN, January 18, 2017 – Brooklyn Community Foundation is now accepting applications for its 18-month Incubator Project residency, which will award up to three start-up nonprofits, community groups, or community leaders with free co-working space within the Foundation’s office in Crown Heights and a stipend of up to $5,000 for start-up costs.
Startup Brooklyn nonprofits and community leaders in need of affordable office space are encouraged to apply now through February 21st at http://www.brooklyncommunityfoundation.org/incubator-project-application.
In alignment with the Foundation’s Racial Justice Lens, the Incubator Project will support nonprofits, community groups, and community leaders working in one or more of the following areas of focus: Housing Rights, Immigrant Rights, Gender Equity, Environmental Justice, Criminal Justice, and Arts and Culture.
Incubator Project benefits include:
- Co-working space for up to 2 staff members or volunteers starting April 1, 2017;
- A stipend of up to $5,000 for legal fees, web development, and other start-up costs;
- Use of a large conference room and kitchen;
- Access to topical workshops and skill-building opportunities.
Priority for the Incubator Project will be given to community organizations and leaders that have a demonstrated commitment to racial justice and a community-driven approach; are led by directly affected communities and people of color; have been in operation for at least a year; have a stable and committed board of directors or advisory board and an operating budget of $250,000 or less.
Priority will also be given, but not limited to, community organizations and leaders that are based in Crown Heights.
The Foundation will host an Open House for interested applicants at its 1000 Dean Street headquarters in Crown Heights on Friday, February 10th from 2-4PM. RSVP here.
The Incubator Project is a program of the Foundation’s Brooklyn Accelerator, a hub of information, idea exchange, and gathering of philanthropic resources across the borough. Among its many functions, the Brooklyn Accelerator connects community-based nonprofits to new donors and board members; sponsor nonprofit capacity-building and technical assistance services; provide training on equity, cultural competence, and anti-racism; and—using the Foundation’s new office in Crown Heights—incubate and support promising local leaders and organizations.
Additionally, the Foundation’s conference room and office amenities are available to community groups to use for free through the Brooklyn Accelerator.
