Brooklyn Community Foundation Awards its First Resident-Led Grants to Projects in Crown Heights 
 
The Brooklyn Community Foundation, with its Crown Heights Advisory Council, announced the 11 projects that will receive $100,000 collectively through its new Neighborhood Strength initiative. 
 
Grants range from $5,000 to $15,000 and will bolster the work of neighborhood residents, nonprofits, and community groups addressing four key Crown Heights’ priorities: housing rights, cross-cultural Relationships, youth opportunities, and policing.
 
The Crown Heights Advisory Council has recommended priorities for the 2015-16 Crown Heights Grant Program, which include a focus on supporting organizations addressing tenants’ rights & homelessness, police relationships, youth development, and stronger bonds between Crown Heights’ diverse communities. 
 
Initially focused on Crown Heights, this is Brooklyn Community Foundation's first resident-led grantmaking program designed to build a new model that brings together neighborhood residents and community leaders to discuss local challenges, identify areas for funding, and recommend support for projects through a competitive grant program.
