After Months of Searching, De Blasio Promotes Acting Corrections Chief to Permanent Post
After considering nearly a dozen candidates around the country for the post, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has opted to keep acting Department of Correction Commissioner Cynthia Brann as the permanent replacement for former Commissioner Joseph Ponte, who left earlier this year under a cloud of controversy.
Brann, who most recently served as deputy commissioner of quality assurance and integrity at Rikers Island, was brought into the department by Ponte after the two served together in the Maine Department of Corrections, where both forged their respective careers. . .
