Quanta Magazine is seeking a strategic, creative and nimble Audience Producer with writing, design, video and administrative experience to support the audience development team.

The audience producer will create content that both supports and complements Quanta’s editorial output across a range of channels. Working closely with the senior engagement editor, the audience producer will pitch and develop assets and campaigns to promote and augment Quanta’s regular publication schedule, content tentpoles and extensive archive, and to strengthen the magazine’s voice and presence across platforms with original science content. The audience producer will also maintain the magazine’s social calendar, and build a database of templates, styles and formats for targeted social media posts and short videos.

This is a full-time position based in the Simons Foundation offices in New York City.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Write, design, produce and schedule social media posts on platforms including X, Facebook, Instagram, Bluesky, Threads and LinkedIn

  • Collaborate with the video team on content for TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Reels

  • Pitch and develop new formats for stand-alone social media content

  • Maintain social media templates

  • Use data to identify and document best practices on each channel

  • Work with the senior engagement editor to co-manage the social media calendar

  • Stage and schedule newsletters with editorial approval

  • Moderate comments on the Quanta website

  • Work with the visual designer to create advertisements for merchandise and initiatives

  • Closely monitor shifting trends in digital media distribution and audience behavior

  • Perform any other duties or tasks as assigned or required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

Experience

  • 1–3 years professional experience working with editorial content for a digital publication

  • Demonstrated ability to work with abstract ideas, ideally related to math or science, while meeting deadlines

  • Experience producing a variety of editorial assets tailored for specific audiences and channels

  • Previous work in a newsroom or scientific setting is a plus

  • Demonstrated passion and creativity for finding new ways to connect with audiences and communicate scientific topics

Related Skills & Other Requirements

  • Excellent grammar and writing ability

  • Proven ability to distill complex topics for a general audience

  • Passion for digital media and news, with a deep interest in the ways people find and consume information

  • Some experience using research insights to guide creative decisions

  • Basic knowledge of how brands are built and preserved online

  • Confidence in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Google Docs in Mac OS X environment, as well as comfort with learning new task-related software packages

  • Basic knowledge of Canva, Adobe Premiere Pro and a social media scheduling tool such as Sprout, Social Flow or Meta Business Suite

  • Consistent accuracy, careful attention to detail and the ability to proactively anticipate needs and to organize several assignments and activities simultaneously

  • Proactive and thoughtful interpersonal communication

  • Willingness to take responsibility and the capacity to function well with minimal oversight

  • Ability to interact with a diverse population and a can-do spirit to help create a team culture

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

  • The full-time annual compensation range for this position is $65,000–$75,000, depending on experience.
