The Aetna Foundation is providing a total of $100,000 in charitable grants to the Salvation Army, the American Red Cross, AmeriCares and the Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City, and the Aetna Foundation will match employee donations dollar-for-dollar to those agencies or any qualified disaster relief organization.
The Altman Foundation has made post-Hurricane Sandy emergency relief and recovery grants totaling $800,000. These grants largely went to pre-existing foundation grantees who were either hard hit by the hurricane themselves, or who quickly became central to providing services and support to other nonprofits and individuals in the worst-affected areas of the City. Included among these grants were a $250,000 contribution to the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York to help support the NYC Housing & Neighborhood Recovery Donors Collaborative and a $100,000 grant toward the total cost of a New York Academy of Medicine project to develop disaster preparedness and response recommendations tailored to the needs of older adults. Moving forward, the foundation will be taking hurricane-related needs and after-effects into account as it continues to make grants within its longstanding areas of priority (education, health, the arts and strengthening communities).
American Express will donate $1 million to the American Red Cross and other organizations involved in hurricane relief efforts. American Express also announced that it will rebate the merchant discount rate to the following nonprofit organizations for charitable contributions for hurricane relief that Cardmembers make directly using their American Express Cards: the American Red Cross, AmeriCares, City Harvest, Habitat for Humanity, Humane Society of the United States, Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City, the Salvation Army, Save the Children, United Way of America and World Vision. The rebate, which will be given directly to the charities listed above, is effective retroactively from Monday, October 29 through December 31, 2012. Cardmembers can also use their Membership Rewards® points for charitable contributions to these organizations as well as others.
The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts allocated $2 million for Hurricane Sandy relief. The foundation made a grant of $1,000,000 to the New York Foundation for the Arts to establish and administer the NYFA Emergency Relief Fund. The foundation’s money provided grants to visual artists who suffered damages and losses due to Hurricane Sandy. The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation and Lambent Foundation also contributed to this fund. The foundation allocated another $1,000,000 to support visual arts organizations that suffered losses due to the hurricane.
The ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), as of mid-April 2013, has given 48 grants totaling over $390,000 towards Sandy relief. These grants aided animal welfare organizations and agencies who responded during Hurricane Sandy and provided medical care and rehabilitation of displaced pets. Grants were also given to support the recovery and rebuilding of those institutions directly impacted. The ASPCA is still making limited funding available to eligible animal welfare nonprofits and government agencies undertaking Sandy recovery efforts via its Emergency and Disaster Response grants program. At this time, the ASPCA is especially interested in funding disaster preparedness planning by animal welfare organizations and agencies.
Bank of America announced it will donate $1 million to support relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, including $500,000 to the American Red Cross Hurricanes 2012 fund. As relief efforts evolve in the coming weeks, the remaining $500,000 will be directed to national, regional and local nonprofits to support long-term recovery needs. It was reported in the press that Bank of America had also contributed to the Mayor’s Fund for the City of New York for hurricane relief efforts.
Bend the Arc, a Jewish Partnership for Justice, has started a Hurricane Sandy Response Fund specifically aimed at Newark, NJ, in partnership with Mayor Cory Booker.

BNY Mellon contributed $1 million to the American Red Cross, local food banks and agencies engaged to support basic urgent needs in the wake of the storm. BNY Mellon's Hurricane Sandy relief fund includes a $500,000 corporate gift and an additional $500,000 in matching funds available for disaster relief contributions made by its employees.
Brooklyn Community Foundation: Speaking with community leaders, grantees and neighborhood associations in the days following the storm, the Foundation determined that they needed to bring together local business, philanthropy and government to spearhead Brooklyn’s response to Superstorm Sandy. In partnership with the Office of the Brooklyn Borough President and the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, the Brooklyn Recovery Fund launched on November 2nd has since awarded over $2.1 million in grants with a focus on long-term recovery and rebuilding in the neighborhoods of Coney Island, Canarsie, Red Hook, Gerritsen Beach and Sheepshead Bay. Thousands of individuals, small businesses, corporations and foundations have generously contributed to the Fund to make it one of the most successful community-based fundraising efforts in the borough’s history. The Foundation continues to award grants from the Fund and draw in additional support while providing ongoing technical assistance and convening for grantees and local agencies throughout the recovery process. 100 percent of all funds raised will go directly to Brooklyn’s coastal communities.
Capital One announced a $1 million commitment to support Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. Capital One’s cash contributions include $200,000 in emergency relief grants and an additional $600,000 to support longer-term recovery efforts and they will also match up to $200,000 in contributions made by customers through the Capital One No Hassle Giving site.
Chase Bank has announced that it will offer extensive relief across the firm customers and the local communities impacted. Pledged relief will include:
- Up to $5 million in charitable donations for relief and recovery efforts in affected areas, including $2 million to the American Red Cross for emergency response; $1 million in matched funds for employee donations to the American Red Cross, World Vision and the United Way, also for immediate relief efforts; and up to $2 million in donations to local agencies for recovery efforts including counseling, temporary housing, cash assistance and access to social services.
- Up to $5 billion in incremental capital for lending to small and mid-size businesses directly affected by the storm to help them rebuild. They will offer favorable terms on these loans, including discounted fees and rates. These loans will be on top of the funding they already do for small businesses.
- Offering funding to states, municipalities and transportation authorities for their rebuilding needs.
- Allowing credit card customers an opportunity to donate to the American Red Cross with Ultimate Reward points.
Chase also donated funds to send the KorillaBBQ mobile food truck to provide free food in Union Square and the @sweeterynyc truck to the Rockaways.
The Citi Foundation donated $1 million to the American Red Cross to help the organization with relief and recovery efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. The $1 million contribution is in addition to the Citi Foundation's annual $500,000 grant to the Red Cross to support its Annual Disaster Giving Program. This latest funding is part of Citi’s support of relief and recovery efforts in the region’s hardest hit communities. Efforts of Citi and the Citi Foundation Now Total $1.6 million.
Deutsche Bank announced that it has committed $1 million to enable their nonprofit partners, including AmeriCares and the Robin Hood Foundation, to help meet the demand for emergency services and restoration efforts. In addition, Deutsche Bank's Gary Hattem is working with the NYC Department of Housing Preservation & Development in the development of a funding collaborative to address longer-term housing and neighborhood-focused rebuilding challenges in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Ford Foundation has donated $5 million to help create a program for New York City nonprofits impacted by Hurricane Sandy. Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced the new program on November 27. With $5 million in support from the Ford Foundation—as well as funding from the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City, Capital One and the Robin Hood Foundation—the NYC Nonprofit Recovery Loan Program will provide interest-free loans ranging from $5,000 to $100,000 to local nonprofits devastated by the storm. The loans will cover operating and capital costs to those nonprofits qualified for reimbursement. The Ford Foundation continued its support for community rebuilding efforts in the wake of Hurricane Sandy by committing to provide 23 new grants to community organizations in the metro area totaling $469,000.
The Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation is working with the Community Foundation of New Jersey to survey arts organizations and artists in New Jersey to better understand the effect of Hurricane Sandy on the arts community, with the objective of identifying what arts groups have sustained losses of facilities, revenue, cancelled performances, exhibits, etc.
Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. announced that the firm and Goldman Sachs Gives will donate $5 million to Hurricane Sandy clean-up and recovery efforts, and the firm will provide $5 million in loans to small businesses impacted by Hurricane Sandy.
The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation announced that it will donate up to $1 million in support of ongoing Superstorm Sandy relief efforts in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. Grants to organizations working to provide both short- and long-term assistance directly to storm victims include $100,000 to the Archdiocese of New York for the care of mentally ill evacuees and frail older adults who have been displaced by the storm and require housing and material assistance; $250,000 to the Robin Hood Foundation to re-grant among nonprofits working in the Tri-State Area; $250,000 each to the UJA Federation of New York and the Jewish Federations of North America for distribution of short-term emergency funds as well as longer-term capital support for non-FEMA-eligible projects; and $150,000 for additional needs as they are identified.
Hess Corporation is donating $2.5 million to the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City under the direction of Mayor Michael Bloomberg and $2.5 million to New Jersey under the direction of Governor Chris Christie.
HSBC USA announced a $1 million commitment in support of the disaster recovery efforts. This includes a donation of $500,000 to the American Red Cross in Greater New York. HSBC will also match dollar-for-dollar all employee donations to disaster relief efforts through its existing employee giving program, as well as working with community partners who provide emergency housing and financial assistance in the storm-impacted areas.
The Joan Mitchell Foundation is asking that anyone who knows of a visual artist who has been affected by the hurricane to please contact them. The Foundation has funding allocated specifically for emergency assistance to painters and sculptors affected by natural disasters. Additionally, they are making available information about other organizations that may be able to assist affected artists.
Johnson & Johnson committed more than $5 million in product and financial support to relief efforts and is putting additional resources and processes in place to quickly funnel aid to those most affected by the storm.
JPMorgan Chase & Co. efforts will include: $2 million to the American Red Cross for emergency response; $1 million in matched funds for employee donations to the American Red Cross, World Vision and the United Way, also for immediate relief efforts; and up to $2 million in donations to local agencies for recovery efforts including counseling, temporary housing, cash assistance and access to social services.
The Korean American Community Foundation has established the Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund to support nonprofit organizations that are spearheading relief efforts and/or are affected by the storm. The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust contributed to the Mayor’s Fund for the City of New York.
The Leon Levy Foundation donated more than $400,000 in support of parks and gardens restoration and cleanup to Prospect Park, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, the New York Botanical Garden and the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City. Through its archives programs, the Foundation also supported Printed Matter, the New York City Opera and the Martha Graham Center for Contemporary Dance, donating $10,000 to each organization.
The May and Samuel Rudin Family Foundation contributed to the Mayor’s Fund for the City of New York.
The Merck Company Foundation contributed $500,000 earlier this year to the American Red Cross Disaster Giving Program, and in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, made an additional $250,000 donation to the American Red Cross to support Hurricane Sandy disaster relief efforts. In addition to its ongoing matching program for employee donations to qualifying organizations, Merck launched a Hurricane Sandy Disa,, ster Relief employee giving site with the American Red Cross and will match all employee donations.
The Mertz Gilmore Foundation is providing $200,000 in grants to help modern dance companies that have suffered losses and damages due to Hurricane Sandy. Mertz Gilmore also made a grant to Good Jobs New York’s (GJNY) Hurricane Sandy watchdog efforts to help ensure that organizations representing low- and-moderate-income New Yorkers and small businesses are informed of and understand proposals for rebuilding resources. By monitoring various economic development agencies and public authorities, GJNY will alert them to opportunities for public hearings or comment periods and begin assembling data on allocated and/or proposed funds. This data will be included in GJNY’s Database of Deals, where the public can find company-specific information about the recipients of post-9/11 aid and other economic development subsidies allocated by New York City. Those interested should sign up for the group’s
MetLife Foundation will make a $1 million contribution toward relief and rebuilding efforts, including $500,000 to the American Red Cross and $500,000 to support long-term recovery needs. The company also announced that the Foundation will match up to $125,000 of employee contributions made to the American Red Cross.
Mitsubishi Corporation will donate $500,000 towards the relief and recovery efforts for the areas affected by Hurricane Sandy. The Red Cross will receive $250,000 and AmeriCares and the Mayor’s Fund to Advance NYC will each receive $100,000. The remaining $50,000 will be allocated for employee matching gifts made to the following organizations: The New York Community Trust, the Community Foundation of New Jersey, the Salvation Army of Greater New York, City Harvest and the American Red Cros, s.,
Mizuho Financial Group made donations totaling $300,000, including $150,000 to the American Red Cross and $150,000 to the United Way of New York City’s Hurricane Sandy Recovery Fund, to help people and communities impacted by Hurricane Sandy. In addition, the Mizuho USA Foundation doubled its matches for employee gifts made for Sandy relief.
Morgan Stanley announced that the Firm will match employees’ total contributions up to the level of $2.5 million and make a minimum contribution to the Red Cross of $1 million. This contribution is in addition to the Firm’s annual $250,000 gift to the Red Cross' Annual Disaster Giving Program, which provides immediate funds for short-term relief in all disasters.
The New York Community Trust made $1,500,000 in emergency grants just two weeks after Sandy hit, helped by contributions from its donors. But immediate assistance is only the beginning of recovery. Whether responding to a terrorist attack, a recession or a superstorm, The New York Community Trust provides emergency grants to groups providing urgent relief while planning for the future well-being of the City. NYCT started 2013 off with the following grants:
- Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City, $250,000 for a housing and neighborhood recovery fund that will strengthen existing affordable housing, involve poor residents in planning and rebuilding efforts, evaluate the needs of vulnerable residents in flood zones and address environmental health concerns.
- New York Academy of Medicine, $185,000 to develop a disaster preparedness and response plan for elderly New Yorkers.
- New York Committee for Occupational Safety and Health, $60,000 to protect Superstorm Sandy workers from hazardous conditions.
- Pro Bono Net, $120,000 to provide online legal resources on insurance issues, FEMA applications, homeowners’ and tenants’ rights and disaster assistance for immigrants.
- Pratt Institute/Pratt Center for Community Development, $50,000 to manage a community planning process to figure out the best way to rebuild and support Sandy-affected neighborhoods.

Finally, NYCT made a $100,000 grant to Natural Resources Defense Council to promote post-Sandy rebuilding and disaster protection approaches that respect nature and protect public health and $200,000 to The Nature Conservancy to reduce damage from extreme weather caused by climate change.
New York Foundation is sending emergency grants of $5,000 to seven groups working in affected neighborhoods on meeting urgent needs. It has also been posting first-hand accounts from grantees on its blog.
New York Life has made a $1 million commitment to disaster relief and recovery from Hurricane Sandy, as well as implementing an unlimited matching gift program for employees, agents and retirees to support the American National Red Cross and Feeding America. The $1 million commitment will be distributed as follows:
- $500,000 to the American National Red Cross for relief efforts related to Hurricane Sandy,
- $250,000 to the Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City, and
- $250,000 to local nonprofits for recovery efforts in the Tri-State Area.
New York Life employees, agents and retirees contributed approximately $250,000 for Hurricane Sandy victims; after matching employee contributions, the company's Hurricane Sandy disaster relief totaled $1.5 million. New York Life also established the NYLIC Family Disaster Assistance Fund with a donation of $200,000, supplemented by donations from employees and agents and a contribution of $12,000 from the employees of Seguros Monterrey, New York Life’s affiliate in Mexico. Employees and agents volunteered through the company and on their own to help people recovering from Hurricane Sandy by donating supplies and clothing and participating in blood drives, and New York Life’s adopt-a-family program is assisting 16 families from Staten Island and the Rockaways, many of whom lost their homes during Hurricane Sandy. Also, New York Life’s offices on Long Island collected thousands of dollars’ worth of lightly used and brand-new baseball equipment for Pitch In For Baseball, a nonprofit organization that supplies baseball equipment and other assistance to young people in underserved communities. Most of the equipment came from the Garden City Athletic Association and will be donated to local families devastated by Superstorm Sandy. New York Life’s Long Island General Office in Melville and the company’s Jericho office are sponsoring four local Little Leagues affected by the storm — Bay Shore, Island Park, North Merrick and Oceanside American.
The Newman's Own Foundation has announced $950,000 in grants to eleven organizations working to help people and communities affected by Superstorm Sandy. Grants will support both short- and long-term recovery efforts in the Tri-State Area. In New York, the foundation awarded grants to the Brooklyn Community Foundation, City Harvest, the Food Bank for New York City, The New York Community Trust and Project Hospitality. Nonprofit service providers in Connecticut receiving grants include the Connecticut Food Bank and Person-to-Person. In addition, the foundation awarded grants to three organizations in New Jersey: the Community FoodBank of New Jersey, the Community Foundation of New Jersey and the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties. In addition, Newman’s Own Foundation made a grant of $125,000 to the Staten Island Foundation Nonprofit Recovery Fund.
North Star Fund is announcing a Grassroots Hurricane Relief Fund to help the most vulnerable residents and communities in our region recover. This special appeal will put all funds raised to immediate use supporting grassroots organizations and activists who are aiding disenfranchised families and communities coping with this disaster.
The Pfizer Foundation is committing $1 million to disaster relief/recovery efforts from the effects of Hurricane Sandy. The Foundation intends to make grants to organizations that broadly support and assist those that have been impacted by the hurricane, with a focus on the hardest-hit areas in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
Phillips Charitable Organizations donated $5,000 to The Mayor’s Fund for the City of New York for Hurricane Relief.
The Robert Sterling Clark Foundation gave the New York Foundation for the Arts a grant of $100,000 to support an Emergency Relief Fund for theaters currently included in the New York Theater Program, which NYFA administers.
Rockefeller Brothers Fund made grants to several organizations in 2012 related to Sandy recovery:
- $80,000 to the Brooklyn Community Foundation for its Brooklyn Recovery Fund;
- $60,000 to Philanthropy New York for its Staten Island Foundation Nonprofit Recovery Fund;
- $110,000 to The Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City for its Hurricane Sandy Housing and Neighborhood Recovery Donor Collaborative, which will provide funding for collaborative initiatives among City agencies leading the housing recovery efforts in affected areas, local nonprofits and organizations with expertise in sustainable building practices, to encourage sustainable rebuilding and recovery activities that provide optimal community benefit;
- $25,000 to The New York Community Trust for the Long Island Community Foundation’s Hurricane Sandy Long Island Relief and Restoration Fund; and
- $25,000 to the New Jersey Community Foundation for its New Jersey Recovery Fund.
While RBF’s local grantmaking is focused on New York City, Sandy has so greatly impacted the entire metropolitan area that, as funds permitted, it felt compelled to extend Sandy-related grantmaking to neighboring areas, where many of its staff live.
Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors' clients are very interested in helping primary care facilities and community health organizations affected by Hurricane Sandy. RPA is looking for information on senior care needs in the area, especially smaller facilities that won’t benefit from special Medicare funding related to recovery.
State Street's Disaster Relief Emergency Assistance Fund (DREAF) made a $500,000 grant to the American Red Cross in support of its recovery efforts.
Staten Island Foundation is helping coordinate philanthropic, business, nonprofit and government responses in the area. A full listing of their grantees, all of which are serving the people of Staten Island, is available on the Foundation’s website listed in their annual report. Additionally, the local community hospitals all have acute needs due to Hurricane Sandy. The Foundation also created a presentation for the Center for Disaster Philanthropy on January 11 highlighting the needs/issues on Staten Island pre- and post-Sandy and the Staten Island Foundation Non-Profit Recovery Fund.
The Stavros Niarchos Foundation has announced that it will grant $750,000 to assist a variety of relief and aid operations in those areas of New York City that have been devastated the most by Superstorm Sandy. The funds will be directed to support local communities throughout Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island. Grantees include Safe Space, Citymeals-on-Wheels, Brooklyn Community Foundation’s Brooklyn Recovery Fund, Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation and the Queens Public Library.
Stonewall Community Foundation has established The Sandy Recovery Fund for LGBTQ New Yorkers at Stonewall. 100 percent of gifts donated to this fund will go towards helping LGBTQ-serving organizations in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Target Corp. announced it has donated $500,000 in monetary support and products for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts, including $425,000 in cash & in-kind donations to the American Red Cross, $50,000 in cash donated to the Salvation Army and $25,000 in gift cards to local Target stores to help with community needs.
TD Bank Group and the TD Charitable Foundation donated a combined $500,000 to the American Red Cross to support Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.
The Teagle Foundation announced $125,000 in special grant support to local organizations and colleges engaged in Superstorm Sandy relief efforts. Funds will be used to supply immediately needed resources as well as assist with volunteer efforts to affected areas. Funds were awarded to: Carl V. Bini Memorial Fund ($10,000), Children of Bellevue ($15,000), Habitat for Humanity ($10,000), Henry Street Settlement ($15,000), Police Athletic League ($10,000), Red Hook Initiative ($10,000), Rutgers University ($10,000), Salvation Army ($15,000), SUNY Old Westbury College Foundation ($10,000), Visiting Nurses Service of New York ($10,000) and Wagner College ($10,000).
Time Warner will donate $500,000 to the Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City and another $500,000 to other organizations serving victims in the Tri-State Area. The company is encouraging employees to visit and support such organizations as New York Cares, NYC Service, the Long Island Volunteer Group and the New York Food Bank, where TW staff will participate in a company-wide volunteer day in the coming weeks.
Toyota will be donating $1 million to the American Red Cross and to other nonprofit organizations to support relief efforts for victims of Hurricane Sandy in the regions worst hit by the storm. It will also match employee contributions to the American Red Cross and other nonprofits doing relief and recovery work in affected communities.
Trinity Wall Street will focus its disaster recovery donations on neighborhoods affected most by Sandy, especially Staten Island. UBS announced that it is committing more than $1.2 million in total financial contributions to aid in long-term relief and rebuilding efforts.
UJA-Federation of New York is making up to $10 million available for relief efforts. The funds will be provided to UJA-Federation's network agencies and synagogues so they are able to respond to urgent needs in the days and weeks ahead. UJA-Federation has also opened the Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund; one hundred percent of all donations will be used for aid. UJA-Federation will also sponsor the seminar “Responding to the Trauma of Disaster & Enabling Communal and Organizational Resiliency” on November 15.
The Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock, through its Large Grants Program, has allocated $680,000 to support five different responses to Superstorm Sandy reconstruction:
- $150,000 to ALIGN for the Alliance for a Just Rebuilding to support a comprehensive organizing campaign involving NY-based grassroots organizations working in poor neighborhoods adversely affected by Superstorm Sandy;
- $200,000 to the Health and Welfare Council of Long Island ($100,000 to fund operations of the Long Island Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters (LIVOAD) Long Term Recovery Group, and $100,000 to be given out as direct grants by the LIVOAD Unmet Needs Roundtable);
- $100,000 to the Interfaith Nutrition Network (INN) to purchase bulk perishable and non-perishable food to meet the increased demand for food generated by Superstorm Sandy;
- $100,000 to the Metro New York District of the UUA to hire a Coordinator of Disaster Response and Volunteer Services to oversee long-term repair and recovery assistance to UU congregations, members and communities most seriously affected by Superstorm Sandy; and
- $130,000 to Sustainable Long Island for a five-component collaboration with the City of Long Beach to ensure a robust and equitable economic recovery after Superstorm Sandy for all residents of the city.
United Hospital Fund has established The Hurricane Sandy Health Care Employee Relief Fund. The Fund has distributed the $632,158 raised through its efforts, with checks going to 47 local health care organizations to assist more than 4,000 workers who suffered significant losses in the disaster. “Hospital and health care workers in New York and New Jersey sustained devastating personal losses even as they worked to ensure the safety of others," says Jim Tallon, the President of United Hospital Fund, which administered the relief fund. "Their commitment and selflessness inspired the creation of the relief fund as a way to bring the health care community together to contribute to the support that many of their colleagues so desperately needed." The founding sponsors and supporters of the relief fund are the Greater New York Hospital Association, Healthcare Association of New York State, Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council, New Jersey Hospital Association, Northern Metropolitan Hospital Association and United Hospital Fund, with the generous support of the American Hospital Association. More than 260 contributions were received from donors around the country, including leadership gifts from American Hospital Association, Healthcare Association of New York State and New Jersey Hospital Association.
Funds were allocated to member organizations of the sponsoring associations, including hospitals, health care systems, nursing homes and visiting nurse associations throughout the region, based largely on the numbers of qualifying employees; all funds raised were distributed. Those distributions, ranging from $269 to $45,488, went to:
- Long Island: $147,747 to 9 organizations representing 781 employees in need;
- New Jersey: $216,369 to 25 organizations representing 1,536 employees in need;
- New York City: $268,040 to 13 organizations representing 1,807 employees in need.

United Way of New York City, via the United Way Hurricane Sandy Recovery Fund, has released $5,762,183 to impacted communities throughout Connecticut, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and West Virginia. To date, the Fund has raised $9.6 million. This is the first installment of funds that will be released to the community in three phases. Other Funders
3M will give up to $250,000 for Superstorm Sandy relief and recovery efforts. A $100,000 grant was made to the American Red Cross immediately. Additional support will be provided in 3M plant communities that have been affected. 3M is providing products as needs are identified—including cleaning supplies, hand sanitizer, duct tape and medical products.
AARP Foundation has created a relief fund to support the victims devastated by Superstorm Sandy. Working with local AARP State offices, they will direct funds to organizations providing relief and recovery support to disaster victims. AARP and its members are committed to helping those in need, so to bolster the Foundation's relief effort, AARP and its affiliates will match dollar-for-dollar contributions up to $500,000. One hundred percent of all funds raised will be used to help the victims of this disaster.
Abbott and the Abbott Fund donated $1 million in funding and products to support Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. Abbott Fund grants were provided to longstanding relief organization partners, including the American Red Cross, AmeriCares, Direct Relief International and World Vets. Abbott has provided product donations to food banks and free clinics in New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
The ACE Group has made a donation of $250,000 to the American Red Cross to support disaster relief efforts in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy. In addition, the Foundation has organized a campaign for donations from ACE’s U.S. employees that it will match 100 percent.
Ahold USA announced donations totaling $2.5 million from the companies and their charitable foundation, Our Family Foundation, to the American Red Cross.
Air Products committed $25,000 to the American Red Cross.
Alcoa Foundation pledged $250,000 to the American Red Cross, United Way and other agencies to help with cleanup in New York and places where Alcoa has locations, including Dover, N.J., and Branford, Conn. The Alcoa Foundation also will match contributions from Alcoa employees up to $25,000.
Allied Electronics donated $10,000 to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to support relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.
Allstate announced that up to $1.2 million for Sandy relief and recovery efforts will be available through the creation of a recovery fund and a company match. The new fund, supported through a $1 million allocation from The Allstate Foundation, supported local nonprofit organizations in affected areas that have capacity and capabilities but need resources to help people rebuild their lives. The Allstate Foundation will use its national reach into local communities to identify eligible nonprofit organizations. Local relationships of Allstate agents will be leveraged with awards made to organizations where agency owners volunteer. The identified nonprofits will be eligible for grants up to $5,000.
Ameren is contributing $50,000 to the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army in support of restoration efforts. In addition, Ameren employees will have the opportunity to contribute to the American Red Cross through payroll deduction.
The American Red Cross has awarded a $2,968,424 grant to New York Disaster Interfaith Services (NYDIS) to support long-term recovery services for people affected by Superstorm Sandy. Founded in response to 9/11, NYDIS is a faith-based federation of more than 80 service providers and charitable organizations that collaborate to provide disaster readiness, response and recovery services to New York City. NYDIS will use the grant both to administer the New York City Sandy Unmet Needs Roundtable and to distribute grant dollars through the New York City Unmet Needs Fund. The Unmet Needs Roundtable program is an established long-term recovery resource that customizes assistance for eligible Sandy clients in need. NYDIS will also use the grant to coordinate housing needs for volunteers travelling to New York City to assist in efforts to repair or rebuild homes in all five boroughs.
Amgen and the Amgen Foundation will support nonprofit organizations providing medical relief and vital health services for patients affected by Hurricane Sandy. The contribution of $250,000 will support relief efforts, including $100,000 to Direct Relief International to advance its work with hundreds of clinics in the affected areas. The balance of donations will be disbursed to organizations that specifically support dialysis patients, for whom timely care is critical.
Amway has set up a place to donate on its website, and is matching donations to $100,000. Amway will consider additional support once the true impact is clear.
Anheuser-Busch packaged 44,000 cases of emergency drinking water—or 1,056,000 cans—this week for residents impacted by Hurricane Sandy and other natural disasters. The Anheuser-Busch Foundation also announced a $100,000 donation to the American Red Cross to assist in on-the-ground support for disaster relief workers and victims of Hurricane Sandy.
Apple made a donation of $2.5 million to the American Red Cross to benefit Hurricane Sandy relief.
Astoria Federal Savings will donate $100,000 to the American Red Cross in support of relief efforts for the areas affected by the devastation from Hurricane Sandy.
The AT&T Foundation has contributed $500,000 to Hurricane Sandy relief efforts, including a $250,000 grant to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund and $250,000 in grants to local relief organizations located in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Rhode Island.
ATMequipment.com donated $10,000 to the American Red Cross to support relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. ATMequipment.com will also match customer donations to the American Red Cross, up to an additional $10,000.
Ayala’s Herbal Water has donated more than 500 cases of Herbal Water to the communities most affected by Superstorm Sandy’s aftermath.
Barclays announced that in response to the unprecedented damage caused by Hurricane Sandy, the firm has committed $1.5 million in support of disaster recovery efforts. The funds will be allocated by providing $500,000 for emergency relief and $1 million for long-term recovery and economic reconstruction efforts:
- $100,000 to the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund
- $100,000 to New York Cares’ Hurricane Sandy Disaster Response

- $50,000 to City Harvest’s Hurricane Sandy efforts
- $25,000 to Brooklyn Community Foundation’s Brooklyn Recovery Fund
- $25,000 to the Food Bank for New York City’s Hurricane Sandy efforts
- $500,000 for long-term economic redevelopment investments
- $500,000 to The Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City for small business restoration and support
Barclays Center, The Nets and the arena’s developer, Forest City Ratner Co., announced they’ll each donate $100,000 to a local charitable fund set up to offer relief to Brooklyn communities and organizations impacted by Hurricane Sandy.
BASF will make a $250,000 cash donation among the Governor's Funds in affected states. BASF Foundation USA will also match employee contributions to tax-exempt organizations (under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code) directly involved in Hurricane Sandy relief efforts up to an additional $250,000. Working with its customers, BASF will provide up to $500,000 worth of products to support rebuilding efforts.
Bayer Corporation announced that it is providing monetary support for disaster relief efforts through donations totaling $150,000 from the Bayer USA Foundation. The American Red Cross and Save the Children will each receive $75,000.
BB&T has made a $25,000 donation to the American Red Cross and is offering humanitarian aid where needed.
BD is pledging up to $500,000, including $250,000 in cash and $250,000 in product donations. BD’s cash commitment will be shared among the American Red Cross, AmeriCares, Direct Relief International, Heart to Heart International and the United Way. BD will match donations by BD employees to the American Red Cross, up to a total of $50,000.
Beam Inc., announced that it will make a $100,000 donation to the American Red Cross to directly aid those impacted by the devastation of Hurricane Sandy.
Belk Inc. has donated $100,000 to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to aid the victims of Hurricane Sandy.
Ben Stiller and the Stiller Foundation contributed to the Mayor’s Fund for the City of New York.
Best Buy is donating $200,000 of product and Geek Squad tech support services. Geek Squad Agents will be on the ground lending their unique expertise and support to nonprofits, schools and libraries delivering disaster relief to the region.
BMO Capital Markets is donating $150,000 to the American Red Cross to support its relief efforts for those affected by the catastrophic damage caused by Hurricane Sandy.
BMW Group’s North American division donated $1 million to the American Red Cross for disaster relief in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation is making a $100,000 donation to the American Red Cross. In addition, the Foundation is matching donations that Bristol-Myers Squibb employees make to eligible nonprofit organizations that are assisting the recovery efforts.
The BP Foundation announced it will donate $500,000 to the American Red Cross to provide assistance in response to Hurricane Sandy. The $500,000 donation—along with support provided by the BP Foundation Employee Matching Program—assisted with emergency meals, shelter, clothing, water and medical care.
C&S Wholesale Grocers donated two tractor trailer loads of ready-to-eat meals, water, snacks and cleaning products (approx. 100,000 pounds) to Feeding America member food banks in Connecticut and New York City, .,
Caesars Entertainment presented a check for $150,000 plus essential items of need to the American Red Cross' Southern Shore Chapter that will be used for area residents devastated by Superstorm Sandy.
Campbell has helped with Hurricane Sandy relief by making a $50,000 contribution to the American Red Cross, distributing 22,000 packets of Pepperidge Farm snacks and 15,550 single-serve bottles of V8 to American Red Cross shelters for victims and relief workers, contributing $100,000 to the NJ Governor’s Disaster Relief Fund and coordinating the donation of another 10-pallet food (soup and beverage) donation to Feeding America. They have also set up a special designation opportunity for their employees via the United Way campaign to direct funds to relief efforts, with more than $100,000 designated to date.
Canadian Pacific announced it will donate $1 million to assist with Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. The donation will include $250,000 to the American Red Cross; $250,000 to the Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City; and $250,000 to New Jersey Governor Christie's Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund.
Canon U.S.A. Inc. made a donation of $100,000 to AmeriCares to be used toward the relief efforts.
Cantor Fitzgerald, the New York City brokerage firm that lost 658 employees in the Sept. 11 terror attacks, announced that it will "adopt" 19 schools in communities hit hard by Superstorm Sandy and will give each family in those schools $1,000 to spend as they see fit. Its relief fund and its affiliate BGC Partners will donate a total of $10 million to the families in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, Long Island and New Jersey. Through its $10 million Sandy Families Assistance Program, the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund has now adopted the families with children registered in 19 public elementary schools by giving each of the 10,000 families hard hit by Sandy a $1000 MasterCard. The Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund accepts public donations at www.cantorrelief.org which are matched by Cantor Fitzgerald. 100 percent of all donations go to victims of Superstorm Sandy in cash grants. Cargill donated $50,000 to the American Red Cross to help with the recovery around Hurricane Sandy.
The CarMax Foundation granted $50,000 to the American Red Cross and $10,000 to the Connecticut Food Bank for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. In addition, The CarMax Foundation's Matching Gifts program will double the match of associate donations of $10 or more made to the American Red Cross through December 31.
CBS is making a $1 million dollar donation to Hurricane Sandy recovery as part of a wider effort that includes PSAs and matching employee contributions through the end of the year.
Chevron has committed $100,000 to the American National Red Cross for immediate disaster relief assistance and will match employee contributions.
Chrysler Group LLC's Ram Truck brand donated 20 Ram 1500 Tradesman trucks and $100,000 to the American Red Cross to assist with relief efforts in the wake of Superstorm Sandy.
The Chubb Corporation has established a $1 million fund for disaster relief efforts related to Hurricane/Tropical Storm Sandy. Chubb contributed $500,000 to the American Red Cross for disaster relief. In addition, the insurer will match employee contributions to qualified relief organizations on a two-for-one basis, up to $500,000. If total employee donations exceed $250,000, Chubb will continue to match those employee dollars on a dollar-for-dollar basis.
Cigna and its employees have committed more than $110,000 to the American Red Cross to address Hurricane Sandy relief efforts, including an immediate $50,000 Cigna Foundation grant and a 1:1 special match of employee gifts.
Cisco has committed $1 million in immediate disaster relief assistance to the American Red Cross. The company will provide a 2:1 employee match up to $2 million to long-standing relief and hunger partners.
Coach, Inc., will make a $2 million gift to Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. The gift was made to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund for relief and rebuilding efforts in the Tri-State Area in the wake of the hurricane.
The Coca-Cola Company pledged $1 million to local community relief efforts around Hurricane Sandy. These funds will help provide resources for necessary food and shelter in the short-term and will aid in t, he, long-term rebuilding efforts.
Stephen Colbert is dedicating some of his SuperPAC money to Sandy relief efforts. After raising $773,704.03 for his SuperPAC and finding out he could legally spend the money on himself, Comedy Central satirist Colbert has instead decided to donate his political bagman’s loot to charity, according to Politico. “In an apparent final act of a nearly year-and-a-half-long gag about the influence of money in politics, Colbert…is giving $125,000 each to the Hurricane Sandy relief efforts of charities DonorsChoose.org, Team Rubicon and Habitat for Humanity, plus another $125,000 to Yellow Ribbon Fund, which supports injured military members,” wrote Politico blogger Dylan Byers. Colbert will also make separate $125,000 gifts to the Campaign Legal Center and the Center for Responsive Politics.
The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee has created the Sandy Disaster Response Fund. It will be working closely with sister community foundations in the impacted areas to make grants addressing pressing needs.
ConAgra Foods has teamed up with "Anderson Live" and is sending 3 trucks of food valued at more than $100,000 to the Feeding America food banks that serve the Howard Beach NYC area and neighboring affected areas.
ConocoPhillips donated $500,000 to the American Red Cross to assist in disaster relief efforts for those impacted by Hurricane Sandy. U.S. payroll employees are also encouraged to utilize the Matching Gift Program to double the impact of their contributions.
Corning Inc. Foundation donated $10,000 to the National Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund in general support of Hurricane Sandy relief and recovery efforts.
Coty Inc. announced that it will donate $100,000 to the American Red Cross for its ongoing work in Hurricane Sandy recovery and relief efforts.
Cox Enterprises, in partnership with The James M. Cox Foundation, announced a combined cash donation of $100,000 to the American Red Cross to assist the relief and recovery efforts of the communities affected by Hurricane Sandy.
Creative Circle, a staffing agency for creative professionals, and the nonprofit KaBOOM! awarded Miss D’s Playgroup, located in the Sandy-affected area of Far Rockaway, a $20,000 grant for an Imagination Playground in a Cart™ play system, a breakthrough play space concept designed by architect David Rockwell to encourage child-directed, unstructured free play, while promoting creativity and imagination as part of play time.
CSC has pledged to match $50,000 of employee donations to the American Red Cross for a total donation of $100,000 to Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.
CVS Caremark announced a donation of more than $100,000 to the American Red Cross National Disaster Relief Fund to provide much-needed support to communities that have been affected by Hurricane Sandy. A donation of $50,000 was made from the Company's foundation, the CVS Caremark Charitable Trust. In addition, CVS/pharmacy is providing snacks and bottled water valued at more than $50,000 to distribute in communities in New Jersey that were impacted by the hurricane.
Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has pledged to donate $1 million to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy, he announced Friday via Twitter. Cuban asked for suggestions as to an entity he should donate the funds. He will make the donation in the name of the Dallas Mavericks and his television network AXSTV, formerly known as HDNet.
Delmarva Power is donating $20,000 to Red Cross disaster relief in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.
Deloitte made a $200,000 donation to the American Red Cross for immediate disaster relief.
Delta Air Lines announced a $100,000 gift to the American Red Cross to support Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. This donation is in addition to Delta's long-standing agreement with the American Red Cross to provide complimentary cargo and passenger capacity, if needed, to help move relief supplies and workers to and from disaster areas around the world.
Dimont and Associates announced they have donated $10,000 to the American Red Cross in order to help those adversely affected by Superstorm Sandy.
Disney announced a $2 million cash commitment to the relief and rebuilding efforts for those severely impacted by Hurricane Sandy. One million dollars will be donated to the American Red Cross for immediate, critical assistance, and another $1 million will be designated for organizations working on rebuilding efforts. Additionally, public service announcements encouraging the public to support rebuilding efforts will run on the Disney-ABC Television Group and ESPN radio and television network channels.
Dow Chemical Co. donated $100,000 to the American Red Cross National Disaster Fund; $150,000 in grants to local Red Cross chapters and human services providers in areas where Dow has facilities; and implemented an employee matching gift program of up to $100,000.
Dunkin' Brands announced a $100,000 donation to the American Red Cross to support Hurricane Sandy disaster relief efforts.
E*TRADE announced that it has made a donation of $100,000 to the American Red Cross to assist with Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.
Edleman Public Relations established a matching program through the Red Cross for Sandy relief efforts, and will provide up to $50,000 in donations to match cash gifts made by employees. The Daniel J. Edelman Family Foundation has pledged to donate an additional $50,000 directly to the Red Cross. The company also hosted a fundraiser to collect donations of clothes, water, food and baby and sanitary items for Edelman volunteers to bring to families in need in Staten Island.
Electrolux is pledging up to $200,000 to aid victims of Hurricane Sandy. The company is donating $100,000 to the American Red Cross Disaster Fund. The company will also match up to $100,000 worth of employee donations.
Eli Lilly donated $200,000 to the American Red Cross and is also matching dollar-for-dollar employee contributions to the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army.
Ellery Homestyles is supporting the Hurricane Sandy relief efforts by donating $10,000 to the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund and the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City.
EMC has pledged $100,000 to the American Red Cross and is matching all employee donations.
Entergy has donated a total $200,000 contribution that includes $150,000 to the Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City and $50,000 to the American Red Cross Metro New York North Chapter.
Enterprise Holdings Foundation donated $1 million to the American Red Cross to aid in Hurricane Sandy disaster relief.
Ernst & Young started a relief and recovery fund. Donations from partners, principals, employees and retired partners will help Ernst & Young families that have suffered losses due to the storm. Within the first three hours of the fund, more than $30,000 was donated. Ernst & Young also started a Hurricane Sandy Housing Exchange. More than 271 EY families are making housing available for their colleagues.
ExxonMobil continues to work to support distribution of gasoline and fuel throughout the area affected by Hurricane Sandy and is donating $1 million to the American Red Cross for disaster relief assistance in New York, New Jersey and the Caribbean.
FedEx Corp. has committed $1.2 million in cash and in-kind transportation to support hurricane relief efforts across the northeast corridor of the United States. Existing relationships with humanitarian organizations will allow FedEx to lend transportation and logistics expertise to support several agencies in their vital relief work following the devastation. FedEx will provide monetary or in-kind transportation support to the following relief organizations to assist with their relief efforts: the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army, Heart to Heart International and Direct Relief International.
Ferrari North America raised over $1.5 million, to be donated to the American Red Cross to support those affected by Hurricane Sandy in the Tri-State Area. Ferrari raised funds for Hurricane Sandy recovery through a winning bid of $1,125,000, at an auction of the first F12berlinetta in the U.S., in addition to over $50,000 in online and in-person donations at the auction.
First Data committed $25,000 in immediate disaster relief assistance to the American Red Cross. The company is also matching all employees' donations to the American Red Cross at 50 percent. Employees with "awards points" for exceptional employee service can donate these to Hurricane Sandy relief through the First Data Foundation. First Data also announced a "Replacement Equipment Relief" program for point-of-sale payment terminals damaged or destroyed in Connecticut, New Jersey and New York. Terminal, shipping and replacement fees are waived for select customers in affected zip codes until December 31.
The FirstEnergy Foundation has contributed $25,000 to the American Red Cross of Greater Cleveland to support relief efforts for residents affected by Hurricane Sandy.
Fluent, Inc. donated $3,700 to the Red Cross to assist with disaster relief in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.
FMC Corporation announced a disaster relief donation of $75,000 to the American Red Cross to support ongoing efforts in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.
Ford Motor Company Fund and Ford employees donated $50,000 to the American Red Cross and its chapters to assist with disaster relief in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.
Gap Inc. donated more than $250,000 worth of clothing, which will be distributed in New Jersey, one of the areas hit the hardest by the storm. In addition, the company will donate $750,000 cash to provide critical help and necessities for those in affected areas.
The Genentech Foundation has donated $200,000 to the American Red Cross to support hurricane relief efforts.
General Electric gave $1.1 million to support relief and recovery efforts throughout the northeast United States. One million dollars was given to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. The additional $100,000 dollars was given to the United Way of America for them to direct to local communities where they determine the need is greatest. The GE Foundation also donated $4 million to the Robin Hood Foundation for Sandy relief.
The General Mills Foundation has committed $250,000 in disaster relief support; $125,000 to the American Red Cross to support relief efforts and $125,000 to Feeding America to provide product to affected communities.
General Motors donated 50 Chevy Silverado full-size pickups and Express cargo vans to the American Red Cross to help its recovery efforts in wake of Superstorm Sandy.
Giant Food Stores donated $2.5 million to the American Red Cross to aid in disaster recovery and another $500,000 to help its associates whose lives had been disrupted.
GlaxoSmithKline has donated $250,000 to the American National Red Cross to help victims of Hurricane Sandy in the United States. The company also is contributing $80,000 through the British Red Cross for relief efforts in the wider Caribbean region—specifically Haiti, Cuba, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic—where Sandy initially made landfall. GSK is also matching dollar-for-dollar all employee contributions to the Red Cross and other relief organizations in the U.S.
GODIVA has committed to donate $100,000 to American Red Cross Disaster Relief to help communities impacted by Hurricane Sandy. The company has also encouraged friends and employees to donate through a link on its website, emails and via social media.
W.W. Grainger, Inc. committed $100,000 to the American Red Cross Hurricanes 2012 Disaster Relief Fund. The company is also matching all eligible employee donations for relief through its three-to-one Matching Charitable Gifts Program.
The Hartford announced a $250,000 contribution to the American Red Cross disaster relief efforts in support of those affected by Sandy.
Hasbro, Inc. announced that it has provided $100,000 in combined grant support through the Hasbro Children’s Fund to the American Red Cross, World Vision and Feeding America to support their relief efforts following Hurricane Sandy. Additionally, over 10,000 games have been donated to shelters along the East Coast.
Home Depot Foundation donated $1 million to the immediate relief, recovery and rebuilding efforts in the Northeast in the wake of the widespread damage by Superstorm Sandy. Donations are immediately being issued to the Red Cross, Team Rubicon and Operation Homefront. Team Depot, the company’s associate-led volunteer force, is also working with local authorities and nonprofit groups to assess damage and mobilize volunteers for cleanup activities.
Honda is pledging $500,000 earmarked for the hardest-hit areas in care of the American Red Cross.
Horizon Foundation for New Jersey has committed $1 million—of that figure, $250,000 goes to the American Red Cross of Northern New Jersey, $250,000 to the Salvation Army’s New Jersey division, $100,000 to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey, and $100,000 to the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund. The remaining $300,000 will be used to match employee donations to the organizations listed above on a three-to-one basis.
Houghton Mifflin Harcourt has pledged its help to schools, public libraries and community organizations in affected regions. HMH has committed in excess of $1 million in total relief support, including cash and book donations, as well as discounted products to replace books and materials lost in the storm.
Hunter Douglas announced that it has created the Hunter Douglas Hurricane Sandy Relief & Recovery Fund. The company will make an initial donation of $100,000 and, in addition to that $100,000, will match every employee donation on a dollar-for-dollar basis up to $250,000.
Huntington Ingalls Industries announced that it has donated $50,000 to the American Red Cross' Disaster Relief Fund. The money will help provide food, shelter, supplies and comfort to the people affected by Hurricane Sandy.
JCP committed $250,000 to the Red Cross for Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts.
Jefferies will donate all net trading commissions earned on November 7 from U.S., European and Asia equity, fixed income, futures, foreign exchange and commodities trading. In addition, Jefferies as a firm will donate $1 million itself directly, and all 3,814 employees worldwide will be given the opportunity to donate to the relief effort their salary for that day, November 7. These contributions will be allocated to the American Red Cross and other worthy charities with the goal of immediately sending funds to relief efforts directly involved in providing aid and recovery.
The Jim Joseph Foundation, based in San Francisco, gave a $1 million grant to UJA-Federation of New York to assist Hurricane Sandy victims.
John Hancock Financial donated $100,000 to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to support communities affected by Hurricane Sandy.
Kellogg Company: In addition to the $500,000 cash and food donation the company previously announced to support the entire region impacted by Hurricane Sandy, Kellogg is partnering with Anderson Cooper to help families whose lives have been devastated by Hurricane Sandy. Kellogg is donating two semi trucks full of its cereal and snacks with a retail value of $100,000 to Feeding America to help with relief and recovery efforts in New York. A portion of that donation is going to community centers in Breezy Point.
Kia Motors America donated $500,000 to the American Red Cross to aid the Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.
Kohl’s Department Stores announced a $1 million cash donation toward Hurricane Sandy relief efforts along the East Coast. Kohl’s is providing this donation to the American Red Cross.
Lady Gaga pledged $1 million to the Red Cross on November 7.
Lannett Company, Inc. announced that it has made a donation to the American Red Cross to support Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.
Levi Strauss Foundation has committed a total of $100,000 to the American Red Cross and grassroots organizations in affected areas. In addition, the foundation is double-matching its employees' donations to disaster relief.
Limited Brands, Inc. donated $1 million to Hurricane Sandy relief. $500,000 was donated to the American Red Cross for immediate assistance and an additional $500,000 will be designated for organizations working on rebuilding efforts.
The Loews Regency, which recently closed for renovations, is donating more than 3,600 items to the Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City. A Coney Island senior center badly damaged by Superstorm Sandy received a truckload of refrigerators, rugs, conference tables and televisions that, until recently, serviced the Loews Regency Hotel.
L.L.Bean announced a $150,000 commitment to relief efforts for children and families severely impacted by Hurricane Sandy. Funds are being donated to Save the Children, an organization that provides families with food, supplies and medical care and helps communities rebuild through long-term recovery programs.
L’Oréal USA has pledged an initial $50,000 donation to the American Red Cross and enacted an employee matching gift program for three organizations: the American Red Cross, The Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City and the Community FoodBank of New Jersey.
The Los Angeles Lakers announced they will donate $50,000 and will match donations up to an additional $50,000 from its fans to the American Red Cross.
Lowe’s is also in the $1 million donation club. In addition to the cash donation, Lowe’s will accept donations to the Red Cross at stores across the country.
M&T Bank announced that it will make a contribution of $250,000 to the American Red Cross to assist victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Major League Baseball announced Friday that in conjunction with the Major League Baseball Players' Association a donation of $1 million is being made to benefit the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army and Feeding America to assist in the efforts being made to help those affected most by the storm.
Marathon Petroleum Corporation announced that it will donate $250,000 to the American Red Cross to provide disaster relief in communities that are recovering from Hurricane Sandy. MPC will also donate more than 119,000 MREs (meals-ready-to-eat) to Feeding America, which will distribute the food to victims in the affected region.
Maritz has donated $20,000 to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to aid the victims of Hurricane Sandy and encouraged employees who want to help to consider donating directly to the American Red Cross or another reputable organization of choice. They also directed employees to The Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance website for general advice about how to vet charities.
Marriott International, Inc. and The J. Willard & Alice S. Marriott Foundation, the Marriott family's private foundation, announced they will each contribute $250,000 for a total donation of $500,000 to hurricane relief. Half will be donated to the American Red Cross to help meet immediate community needs that will broadly benefit Marriott associates, their families, friends and neighbors. An additional $250,000 is earmarked for longer-term recovery efforts.
Marsh & McLennan Companies will donate up to $500,000 to assist in relief efforts. It will make direct contributions of $100,000 each to the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City, grassroots recovery efforts in the state of New Jersey and the American Red Cross. In addition, the Company will match all colleague donations, up to a total of $100,000, to the Red Cross.
Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company announced it will donate $100,000 to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund in response to the devastating impacts of Hurricane Sandy.
MasterCard committed $300,000 to the American Red Cross for disaster recovery. In addition to the corporate donation, MasterCard will offer a 2-for-1 match on employee donations, and waive interchange fees on U.S. domestic MasterCard transactions through November 30. The following organizations will benefit: the American Red Cross, AmeriCares, Habitat for Humanity, Save the Children and World Vision.

WABC/NEW YORK talk-show host Geraldo Rivera hosted a live show on November 12 at a Salvation Army disaster relief site in Island Park, Long Island to raise money for Hurricane Sandy victims. Rivera was joined by the star of SMASH and former American Idol singer Katharine McPhee, who donated $50,000 through her McPhee Outreach charitable foundation.
Medtronic, Inc. announced on November 5 a grant of $250,000 from the Medtronic Foundation to the American Red Cross to support relief efforts in areas affected by Hurricane Sandy. Medtronic employees also are offered five days of paid leave to assist in recovery efforts.

Microsoft has committed cash donations to the American Red Cross and the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City along with in-kind donations of software, hardware and services to support relief efforts, altogether totaling $2.5 million.
Mister ArtSee ART© Emergency Fund: The devastation from Hurricane Sandy has had a major impact for the arts community. Flooding as high as 10 feet caused extensive damage to the Red Hook, Gowanus and DUMBO areas. These areas are filled with ground floor art-related businesses—foundries, metal shops, wood shops, fabricators, art movers and more—who saw machinery, materials and partially completed work for others completely destroyed. The damage many of these art professionals have suffered will affect the whole arts community that relies on them for needed services. The insurance coverage these companies have will not be enough. Mister ArtSee, the nation's mobile art laboratory, and the ART© group have set up an emergency relief fund for artists and art professionals who have suffered losses due to Hurricane Sandy. Mitsui USA will contribute $50,000 to the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City, which is dispersing one hundred percent of donations to organizations providing storm relief to support immediate needs, including water, food and personal supplies, as well as long-term relief and restoration efforts to help New York City recover from the storm.
Mondelez International annually contributes to the American Red Cross Annual Disaster Giving Program to ensure valuable resources are available immediately for families during disasters. Due to the severity of Sandy, Mondelez International is stepping up its efforts by contributing $500,000 in cash and product donations to the Red Cross.

OceanFirst Financial Corp., the holding company for OceanFirst Bank, announced that the OceanFirst Foundation pledged $500,000 to establish a Relief and Recovery Grant Program to assist the efforts of nonprofit organizations in the New Jersey shore market area that are helping local families impacted by the epic storm Sandy. The first three recipients of OceanFirst Foundation Relief and Recovery grants will each be awarded $50,000 to help meet the emergency basic needs of local families: The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, Neptune; St. Francis Center, Brant Beach; and Catholic Charities, Diocese of Trenton (Emergency Services). Pernod Ricard USA announced a $100,000 contribution to the American Red Cross to fund donations of bottled water and other needed supplies for those affected by Hurricane Sandy.
Pepco Holdings committed $80,000 total to the American Red Cross to support Hurricane Sandy relief efforts in each of Pepco Holdings' three service territories: Atlantic City Electric, Delmarva Power and Pepco.
PG&E power crews headed east and offered their services to homes and businesses affected Hurricane Sandy. As part of a nationwide utility mutual aid effort, the company sent dozens of trucks and 150 crew members to help out on the East Coast just after midnight Wednesday.
Phillips 66 made a contribution of $500,000 to the American Red Cross to assist local disaster relief operations following Hurricane Sandy. The company also matched individual employee contributions through its Matching Gift Program. Additionally, Phillips 66 is supporting affected employees by offering financial assistance to those who have experienced significant damage to their homes.
The PNC Foundation announced that it will donate $150,000 to the American Red Cross and $150,000 to the Salvation Army for relief efforts in areas affected by Hurricane Sandy. The foundation also will match PNC employee contributions to the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army and AmeriCorps up to a total of $150,000.
Polo Ralph Lauren Corporation announced a $2 million gift to Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. As part of the $2 million gift, the Ralph and Ricky Lauren Family Foundation is donating $1 million to the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City to help address immediate needs of New Yorkers as well as long-term relief efforts. Ralph Lauren Corporation is donating the other $1 million to relief efforts, dividing the money between the Robin Hood Relief Fund, the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund and local organizations for relief and rebuilding efforts in New Jersey, Connecticut, Long Island and Westchester County.
Prudential Financial, Inc. announced that it is donating $3 million through The Prudential Foundation to nonprofit organizations assisting in the immediate relief and recovery efforts for victims of Hurricane Sandy. These include the Community FoodBank of New Jersey, the Salvation Army, the American Red Cross and other organizations. In addition, Prudential will match employees' personal contributions to nonprofit organizations delivering relief efforts and services in the communities affected by the hurricane.
The PSEG Foundation is making an immediate $50,000 grant to the American Red Cross to assist customers in its New Jersey service territory with temporary shelter, food and other assistance. In addition, the PSEG Foundation will contribute another $50,000 in total to organizations supporting recovery efforts in local New Jersey communities. It will be working with FEMA to identify organizations to benefit from these grants.
PVH Corp. announced that a $1 million gift was made to help support Hurricane Sandy relief and rebuilding efforts in the Tri-State Area in the aftermath of the storm. This gift will be split between the American Red Cross, the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City and the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund.
RadioShack announced a $50,000 donation to the American Red Cross to support Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. The donation helped cover costs of shelter, food, recovery and other assistance to families affected by the storm.
Stewart Rahr. WABC/NEW YORK talk-show host Geraldo Rivera hosted a live show on November 12 at a Salvation Army disaster relief site in Island Park, Long Island to raise money for Hurricane Sandy victims. Stewart Rahr, the self-made pharmaceutical billionaire, called in live on the air and donated $50,000 to directly benefit Hurricane Sandy victims in the Rockaways section of Queens. Rahr is listed as #298 on the Forbes 400 according to Forbes Magazine. Rahr sold his pharmaceutical distribution company for $1.3 billion, and set aside $100 million to establish the Rahr Foundation with which he donates to many charitable causes.
Rachael Ray, the celebrity chef, is donating $500,000 to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to help animals and families affected by Hurricane Sandy. Ray announced that her pet food brand, Nutrish, is shipping four tons of wet and dry dog food, and her Yum-o! organization is donating $100,000 to City Harvest and the Food Bank for New York City.
RBC announced a $250,000 donation to the American Red Cross to support relief and humanitarian efforts for those affected by the catastrophic damage caused by Hurricane Sandy in the United States.
Related Companies, Stephen Ross and the Miami Dolphins are donating $500,000 to the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York to support Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. Ross serves as the Chairman of the Board and Managing General Partner of the Miami Dolphins and is the Chairman and Founder of Related Companies, which is headquartered in New York City.
Repair the World, a national nonprofit that works to inspire American Jews to volunteer, is offering micro-grants for winter and spring alternative break programs that focus on Hurricane Sandy relief and response efforts. Alternative breaks offer young adults a hands-on service-learning opportunity and give them the chance to experience how the integration of service, education and reflection can create a meaningful and positive change in themselves and in communities. The micro-grants, ranging from $1,000 to $5,000, may be used by programs to help cover costs of the trip such as travel, supplies, staffing and local housing. Eligible groups should engage teens, college students and post-college-aged young adults (up to age 35) to serve at least 200 hours, to implement a disaster response service-learning curriculum developed by Repair the World and to report on their experiences. All groups receiving a micro-grant must operate under or in connection to a 501(c)(3).
Reynolds American Foundation will donate $140,000 to the American Red Cross to help provide relief to victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Rite Aid Foundation will donate $100,000 to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to help the victims, families and communities affected by Hurricane Sandy.
The Robert R. McCormick Foundation, along with Newsday and News 12, will match the first $500,000 raised for the Hurricane Sandy Long Island Disaster Relief program at 50 cents on the dollar.
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has pledged $5 million to Hurricane Sandy relief and recovery efforts in New Jersey. Shortly after the storm, the foundation gave a $250,000 grant to the American Red Cross of Central New Jersey to support the agency’s emergency services, including setting up shelters, deploying volunteers, distributing food and relief supplies and offering emotional support and services in affected communities. An additional $250,000 grant was pledged to the Community Food Bank of New Jersey to help replenish food banks, shelters, soup kitchens and other agencies in the hardest-hit areas of the state. The Foundation allocated another $4.5 million to help with the recovery, with a strong focus on health-related issues.
Rockwell Automation committed $100,000 to the American Red Cross to fund Sandy disaster relief efforts. Customers, partners, media and employees attending the Automation Fair in Philadelphia on November 14-15 will get a chance to help. Rockwell Automation made a $50,000 contribution to the Red Cross of Southeastern Wisconsin, and another $50,000 has been committed to the Red Cross of Southeastern Pennsylvania to use as a challenge match incentive for Automation Fair attendees.
Rogers Corporation announced it has made a $20,000 donation to the American Red Cross to support its Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.
Ross Stores, Inc. made a cash contribution of $250,000 to the American Red Cross.
The Salesforce.com Foundation has a three-pronged response to the disaster. It has set up a special employee matching fund with the Red Cross which goes over and above the normal matching grant program. The Foundation has brought a Chatter Communities group online which has been designed to serve their nonprofit customers in the New York, Boston and DC metro areas. It will provide a way for the affected nonprofits to communicate with one another, share information and seek resources. The Foundation has also developed a grant fund that will be dispersed to local nonprofits whose needs surface through the community. These funds will be disbursed at the discretion of a local employee-based advisory committee.
Samsung Electronics North America announced that it will be donating $3 million to help residents on the East Coast who were affected by Hurricane Sandy. Samsung has pledged $3 million to the American Red Cross through ABC Television’s “Day of Giving.”
Scripps Networks Interactive announced a corporate donation of $250,000 to the American Red Cross to provide shelter, food, emotional support and other assistance to those affected by Hurricane Sandy.
Jerry Seinfeld has added an additional show to his comedy tour of New York and he will donate his income from that show to local organizations providing relief for people affected by Hurricane Sandy.
Sempra Energy Foundation pledged $50,000 in disaster-relief assistance funds to East Coast storm victims. In support of Sempra Energy companies' employee giving efforts, the Foundation also will be matching up to an additional $50,000 in employee donations, bringing the total potential donation to $150,000 by the Foundation and company employees.
Shell and Motiva have provided both financial support and gasoline supplies to support relief and recovery efforts of Hurricane Sandy. Simpson Strong-Tie is donating $25,000 to the American Red Cross to assist in relief efforts throughout the East Coast. The contribution was made directly to the organization's Disaster Relief Fund.

The Texas Credit Union Foundation approved a grant of $5,000 for hurricane relief efforts. The National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF) has activated the online disaster relief system CUAid.coop to raise money for credit union people along the East Coast affected by Hurricane Sandy.
The TODAY Show, in collaboration with United Way and Amazon.com, has launched a new initiative to bring desperately needed supplies to the communities that need them most. In wish lists developed by United Ways in New York City, Long Island, Connecticut and New Jersey, goods like tools, space heaters, sheets and school supplies can be purchased to help families rebuild their homes and return to a sense of normalcy. United Way will ensure the distribution of these goods through our best-in-class network of community-based organizations.
Toys”R”Us Children’s Fund made a $500,000 donation to Save the Children, a global humanitarian organization, to support its initial work and assessment of needs for children and families in evacuation shelters. These funds also helped the organization distribute much-needed items, including hygiene kits, diapers and baby wipes.

Tyson Foods pledged help for the American Red Cross’ relief and recovery efforts for Hurricane Sandy with a corporate match of $100,000 of employee donations that are being collected to support victims from the recent storm.
Underwriters Laboratories is offering free service to businesses/local authorities to conduct safety inspections on water-damaged equipment; inspection services to check water contamination; distribution of relevant safety materials on use of generators, food-borne illnesses, restoration of residential/commercial properties after flooding, fire and electrical hazards post-natural disasters; a donation of $10,000 to the Red Cross and matching donations for all UL employee contributions; and onsite blood drives at UL offices and labs across the U.S.
United Airlines will support the efforts of the American Red Cross, AmeriCares and Feeding America to provide aid to those affected by Sandy. The United Airlines Foundation will donate up to a total of $50,000 to match donations from United customers and co-workers to partner organizations.

UPS announced it has pledged $1.5 million in cash and in-kind support to aid in the recovery efforts following the devastation caused by Superstorm Sandy.

Viacom is donating $1 million to recovery efforts including $500,000 to the Mayor’s Fund for NYC. Viacom is also creating an employee relief program to assist Viacom employees directly affected by the storm.
Visa Inc. announced a comprehensive commitment to help those impacted by Hurricane Sandy.
