Commissioner Elia took on this role in July 2015 after a career as a classroom teacher, district program administator and superintendent, in New York and Florida. She will be meeting with the Education Working Group and other interested funders to outline her priorities for the coming years, and to discuss her take on philanthropy’s role in the education arena, at this moment of challenge and opportunity.
Fred Frelow, Senior Program Officer, Ford Foundation, will moderate the conversation with Commissioner Elia that will include:
- Teacher evaluation
- Common Core implementation
- District-charter school collaborations
- School funding
- NYC-NYS connections
- No Child Left Behind and the new Every Student Succeeds Act
