Bintou Sankareh is a Public Service Scholar Intern at Philanthropy New York (PNY). She is an honors student at Hunter College studying a unique combination of a double major in psychology and sociology and a minor in public policy. In between her full course load, she is highly involved on her campus and community where she shows her strong passion for working with the youth to ensure/secure their future success. As a member of the SEEK (Search for Education, Elevation and Knowledge) program at Hunter, she volunteers her time mentoring young college freshmen in order to help them create a smooth transition from high school to college.
Outside of her collegiate environment, she volunteers and serves her community at local soup kitchens, hospitals and public schools. She mentors disadvantaged inner-city public school students, by increasing the students’ awareness of careers, college programs, majors along with other opportunities available to them. She also worked at the Mayor’s Office of Correspondence, where she was able to learn different skills and how the government sector works. Her main goal is to enhance her knowledge and excel in different areas with Philanthropy New York.
