This study is among the first to analyze what parents can do to encourage their children’s charitable behavior. It finds that nearly 90 percent of children give to charity; that girls and boys are equally likely to give money, but girls are more likely to volunteer; and that parents who talk to their children about charitable giving significantly increase the likelihood that those children will give to charity.
