JPB’s three program areas are Poverty, Environment, and Medical Research. JPB is hiring for two Program Associate positions: Program Associate, Poverty and Program Associate, Environment.

JPB’s Poverty Program focuses on promoting health equity, democracy and economic justice. Cutting across these program areas are two key approaches: 1) empowering people at the grassroots level to identify problems and formulate solutions, and 2) protecting and advancing system-wide programs and reforms that lift people out of poverty.

JPB’s Environment Program focuses on transitioning to a clean and just energy future, ensuring natural systems and the built environment are free of toxic chemicals, and delivering stacked benefits of natural spaces. Cutting across these program areas is the focus on strengthening an equitable and aligned environmental movement.

Position Summary

The Program Associate (PA) will support the Poverty or Environment Program. They will play a substantive role in providing program and administrative support to the Program Officers. They will work as part of a collaborative team to strengthen the operations and administration of the Program and The JPB Foundation overall.

Responsibilities

Program Support

  • Meeting preparation: Prepare background materials, correspond with meeting participants, share agendas and meeting materials in advance with all participants.
  • Meeting attendance and follow-up: Take notes and save in relevant electronic location; follow up with items from meetings. Help prepare agendas and background materials for conversations and convenings with subject matter experts. Participate in convenings, conferences and funder briefings coordinated by grantees, other foundations and/or thought leaders, and prepare reports on those events.
  • Communications with other organizations: Track potential grantee conversations and pipeline and save in relevant electronic location. Draft declination letters to unsolicited letters of inquiry; manage system for receiving and reviewing grantee progress reports and draft progress report review summary as necessary. Support Program Officers in responding to grantees’ questions.
  • Research: Support special projects related to acquiring information from or delivering information to grantees. Work closely with Program Officers in conducting research to deepen JPB’s knowledge on current issues in the field. Work on special projects as needed.

Administrative Support

  • Schedule in person and phone meetings, send meeting invitations, reserve rooms, and coordinate with other administrative staff as necessary.
  • Submit expense reports for Program Officers and confirm travel itineraries.
  • Work closely with grants administration to ensure items within the Program Officers’ workflow are on track.
  • Help draft one-page summaries of all grants for end of year distribution.

Qualifications, Competencies and Behaviors

  • Minimum of 2 years’ relevant full-time work experience, with a particular interest in the nonprofit, philanthropic, or public sector in fields related to the focus areas of JPB.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and relevant credentialing preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Sound judgment and integrity, enjoys work in both a collaborative environment and independently.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and able to learn other programs to support the work. Experience working with FLUXX a plus.
