Position Summary

The Human Resources (“HR”) Manager for training and development, and recruiting, will be involved in all activities related to employment including but not limited to strategic recruitment and retention, policy development, employee relations and organizational development consistent with Helmsley’s overall objective of recruiting and continuously developing top talent and positioning Helmsley as a top employer.  The HR Manager will employ a mix of listening, planning, learning design, content creation, program management and facilitation skills to enable growth and advancement among staff. The HR Manager will also develop and lead HR practices that promote a high-performance culture with a focus on productivity and cutting-edge sector expertise.  The HR Manager is part of a six-person team and reports to the Director of HR. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works effectively across the organization to develop appropriate staffing and development strategies.
  • Assists in researching, curating, designing, and delivering staff development and training programs. (Learning solutions will be designed both in-house and with expert third parties.)
  • Conducts recruitment efforts for all exempt, non-exempt and temporary workers; writes and posts job descriptions; works with hiring managers to develop innovative recruiting approaches, and screen and interview candidates; conducts reference checks.
  • Establishes credibility throughout the organization as an effective listener and problem solver; operates with highest degree of integrity; collaborates with senior management and Director of HR to proactively resolve employee relations issues.
  • Prepares and provides HR communications and presentations to staff.
  • Manages new hire on-boarding process, maintains HR data, and manages paperwork associated with change requests, new hires, and exits, in close cooperation with Finance, Payroll and Office Operations.
  • Is knowledgeable of and assists with implementation of employment policies and procedures.

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years’ experience in training, and organizational development. Experience in recruiting a plus.
  • Knowledge of current HR practices, and pertinent Federal, State and Local regulations.
  • Strong oral and written communications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • An unquestioned track record demonstrating sound judgment, integrity, and ethics; a person of strong character who will quickly gain the trust of others.
  • Unquestioned ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner and gather and analyze information skillfully.
  • Experience managing multiple priorities effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative and to work under deadlines and changing priorities.
  • Must thrive in a team setting but work well independently and self-sufficiently.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Power Point and Excel) and Windows 10.
