About the Role

We are looking for a talented Communications Coordinator to help create our communications strategy and oversee our social media accounts, newsletter, podcast, and web-series. You will be responsible for creating original content, managing posts, and responding to followers. You will also be responsible for managing external communications inquiries and ensuring that the appropriate content is developed for any events.  We expect you to be up-to-date with the latest digital technologies and social media trends. You should have excellent communication skills and be able to express Build Up’s views creatively and intentionally.

Additionally, you will manage outreach to potential sponsors and guests for the podcast from research to outreach to solidifying the engagement. You will manage the podcast in a thoughtful and professional way, completely owning all aspects with the podcast such as liaising with We Edit Podcasts, drafting all relevant content, recording intros and outros, blog posts, and social posts.

Ultimately, you should be able to effectively manage our social media presence, ensuring high levels of web traffic and customer engagement. You will support in the management of Build Up’s image in a cohesive way to achieve our marketing and communications goals.

About the Person in the Role

You thrive in start-up environments where you can lead and learn in new situations. You are extremely proactive and take initiative. You are someone that people depend on. You love embracing new challenges.

 You Must:

  • a bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Marketing, Communications, Business or English) and at least 1 year of relevant experience or no bachelor’s degree and have at least three years of relevant communications and marketing working experience;
  • have a portfolio of demonstrated past client successes, capturing audience growth and return on investment;
  • Have both developed communications strategy and managed content;
  • have values that completely align with ours;
  • have excellent copywriting skills;
  • have strong editing skills;
  • maintain a very high level of confidentiality;
  • meet tight deadlines and follow up quickly;
  • have solid knowledge of SEO, keyword research, and Google Analytics; and
  • have a genuine interest in what is happening socially, politically, and philanthropically in the United States, the Caribbean, and Sub-Saharan Africa.

Compensation

The Communications Coordinator will receive a starting hourly rate of $23-$25 per hour.

Our Hiring Process 

  • If we are interested in learning more after we receive your application, you will receive an email from us where you will be asked to discuss some preliminary questions about your experience and interest in the role. 
  • After these discussions, we will further narrow the applicant pool and invite a few applicants to talk with us via video. You will meet with the Executive Portfolio Liaison so you can ask questions about working with Build Up and we can learn more about your experience and workstyle. 
  • After the conversation with Executive Portfolio Liaison, we will ask some applicants to meet with the CEO via video.  The finalist(s) for the role will be asked to participate in an assessment.
  • Afterward, an offer will be made for the Communications Coordinator role.
